Masoli shines again as Ticats down Bombers

There is a school of thought in the CFL that says it’s perfectly OK for a defence to give up a bunch of short-range stuff underneath, challenging offences to complete pass after pass to move the ball down the field. Only the elite quarterbacks, the thinking goes, are accurate enough to get it done.

It might be time to start considering Jeremiah Masoli in those terms.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats pivot was spectacular in Friday night’s 31-17 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, throwing for 369 yards and strafing the predominantly zone coverage with a ruthless efficiency that slowly broke the Bombers’ will. He completed 76 per cent of his passes and was his usual unflappable self in the process.

The Ticat defence, meanwhile, made Winnipeg rookie quarterback Chris Streveler look very much like a first year player, taking him out of his comfort zone and pummelling him with regularity. In the critical third quarter, Hamilton held the Bombers to eight offensive yards.

The Bombers got the first points of the game set up by a rare offensive miscue, Masoli’s pass for Terrence Toliver picked when the receiver fell and the ball hung up in the decent breeze. Four plays later, Andrew Harris crashed in from the one yard-line and an early 7-0 lead.

Masoli responded on the very next drive, using a long pass to Brandon Banks and a couple of solid runs by Canadian running back Sean Thomas-Erlington to bring them to the doorstep and Mercer Timmis hammered it home.

The teams traded field goals, the Bombers getting theirs after a nifty fake punt extended the drive and Lirim Hajrullahu responding with a 52 yarder for Hamilton. The Ticats added another triple after a 10-play drive – their second of the first 30 minutes – then another on the final play of the half to hold a six-point lead into the break.

Masoli went right back to work on the opening possession of the third, marching the Ticats down the field with six straight completions and then handing it off to Timmis for his second score of the night. The two-point attempt fell incomplete.

He wasn’t done. After the defence forced a Bomber two-and-out, Masoli carved up the Winnipeg secondary for another three completions and a 25-yard touchdown pass to Toliver. It put Masoli over the 300-yard mark for the eighth straight game, one off the CFL record held by Sam Etcheverry and some guy named Kent Austin.

The game was pretty much over after three quarters – it was 31-10 – though the Bombers did enough to keep it interesting (and keep Johnny Manziel from making a cameo appearance.)
But Canadian running back Sean Thomas-Erlington picked up a huge first down with just over four minutes to play, capping a terrific game from the 2017 eighth-round pick. A week after Timmis’ breakout, Thomas-Erlington posted 92 yards on 11 rough-and-tumble carries.

With the win, the Ticats improve to 2-1 for the first time since 2009 and will face off against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the first half of a home-and-home next Friday in Regina. With the way Masoli and the Ticats are playing right now, it should be fun.

The Bombers are who we thought they were. Your Montreal victory is but a distant memory.

  2. Big talk from some Bomber fans this past week. This looks good on Winnipeg.

    • BlueBomberChris // June 29, 2018 at 11:25 pm //

3rd there’s big talk from every fan base and ones who always get ahead of themselves.

Heck I can name 2 fan bases that talk ALOT on this site who’s teams don’t necessarily back it up that week.

Does it also look good on those cities when their fans have to eat crow?

      • And Winnipig fans are amongst the worst

        • BlueBomberChris // June 30, 2018 at 8:41 am //

Dave I haven’t seen anything worse from Bomber fans that I haven’t seen from Stamp fans, Rider fans, Esk fans, etc. Before you call me out yes I do look at it objectively because I know we have our A-hole “fans” (everyone does).

Most fans talk a big game, even when your team is the underdog you’ll believe they can win and will let any opposing fan know it.

  3. Paul Bomber // June 29, 2018 at 10:03 pm //

Hamilton is so one-destinational: throw to one of the many TOTALLY WIDE OPEN GUYS!
New names, same crap pass coverage as last year. At what point do we figure out we need to cover receivers?

    • Catmando // June 29, 2018 at 10:50 pm //

      Lol

    • BC Bomber // June 30, 2018 at 2:32 am //

There seemed to be zero adjustment to cover the short/medium outs and wheel routs as the DBs dropped deep and gave up the short stuff. Seems Hall was terrified of the explosion plays, so he gave them 10-15 yards underneath all night.
Lapo seemed to get outcoached tonight, too. Did Streveler throw deep once? The Hamilton D played the line of scrimmage all night and we never gave them reason not to.
Ah well, I thought the kid fought to the end, and loved his enthusiasm and willingness to get in Simone’s face. He’s a scrapper, he will learn, and he will win another day.

      • Tiger man // June 30, 2018 at 10:07 am //

Thing is, Simoni has seen this act many times before. When the rookie tried to “get in his face” Lawrence just laughed at him.

To do this when you’re losing and your team is doing nothing is just pure hot dogging.

    • Foodie Foodnerd // June 30, 2018 at 9:31 am //

Paul Bomber, unless you mean the Tiger-Cats’ one destination is the endzone on every possession, you may have meant one-dimensional?

    • Tiger man // June 30, 2018 at 10:09 am //

Obviously, you were blind to the run game, and with Canadians who haven’t had much playing time.

Just see what you want to see….Bitter, yes.

  4. Hamilton now gavev2superb national running backs – we might not need either Green or White!

  5. Masoli toyed with Richie Hall’s defense.

    • Paul Bomber // June 29, 2018 at 11:01 pm //

Hamilton is good, so don’t get me wrong, but a small kitten with a paw in a cast could toy with Ritchie Hall’s D.

      • Teleology // June 30, 2018 at 7:52 am //

        Wonderful metaphor.

      • But I though O’Shea was going to be more involved and the D was going to be better! Glanville may be older but he sure knows how to get his D going and playing at a high level.

        • Tiger man // June 30, 2018 at 10:46 am //

When June Jones arrived in Hamilton, there were those who cast him away because of his age.

Look at what he’s produced so far.

Then, he brought in Jerry Glanville. The results over the first 3 games and the player’s attitudes are showing success.

As I’ve said before, it’s not your age, but what you know.

          • Was pretty evident once JJ settled in that TC players were willing to go through the wall for him…can’t say the same about Austin.

  6. US CFL fan // June 29, 2018 at 10:12 pm //

We are never going to see Manziel play !!!

    • Keep watching, do not miss a game,Johnny football will play this season!!!!!

    • Steve J. // June 29, 2018 at 11:51 pm //

      What’s your point?

    • Tiger man // June 30, 2018 at 10:13 am //

      Maybe not.

We, who have been following the Tiger cats for a LONG time want wins and Masoli has shown that he can deliver that.

If you’re really hard pressed to see Manziel play, there is always you tube.

      • Tiger man. Bigfoot is right. Keep watching. There seems by a few that Manziel is nit on the fuels because he is not good as Masoli. That is wrong is a better talent. The same can happen if Masoli gets hurt just like Nicol did. Manziel playing like he did in college and last year in NFL will win games and Masoli may never get back on the field. Not that Masoli isn’t good but why change something that is working.

  7. Plan the parade. I’ve been watching the Cats since’68. This team has it all. They just beat the Bombers who I think are better than Cal. or Edm. Bombers are a very good team. Streveler will be a star
Cats are really good this year.
    Go canuck running backs!

    • Don’t know about a parade…but certainly a reason for optimism if you are a TC fan. Nice to see Lawrence return to his old self as well…in fact that whole TC D playing with an edge…something we have not seen in quite a while.

    • Tiger man // June 30, 2018 at 10:15 am //

      Sounds good, Iggy.

But, we’ve only played 3 games. Let’s wait and see how the year goes.

      Remember the 2015 season…

      • Mikefrmthhammer // June 30, 2018 at 3:01 pm //

I agree Tiger man. You don’t win the Cup in June. You win it in November. There is lots to be excited about, and if things keep progressing there is no reason why the Cats can’t win their last game (in the playoffs, of course). 😉

  8. 4.48 4.73 .. Mercer Timmis is almost a clone of Christian McCaffrey (Stanford -Carolina) Except for the 40 yard dash. Guess which of the dash times at the top is which guy.

  9. Dang GOOD win and effort by the TI-CATS!!

Masoli, you are keeping my dawg JFF on the sidelines. Goshdangit though you are playing superb!

Keep it up guys! Fun to watch the WINNING!

  10. A couple of more wins and the east is locked up

    • Steve J. // June 29, 2018 at 11:50 pm //

How soon they forget. It’s the CFL, brother. Anything can and does happen. Talk to me about Division titles in October.

  11. Like I have said Masoli number 1

    • Yes you did…and he is. Must be a tough pill to swallow for the Collaros lovers/Masoli haters who I suspect are dwindling in numbers each time Jeremiah goes out and pitches another 300+.

      • Tiger man // June 30, 2018 at 10:19 am //

I was a big Collaros fan and still believed at the end of last season that he could have taken us back to those heady early 2015 games.

But, I’m loving what I’m seeing in Masoli, and it looks like Collaros is going to be out AGAIN for sometime.

I say, let’s keep it rolling Hamilton.

        • Tiger man – I feel much the same way. I still had a few doubts about Masoli and wished that JJ would have given Collaros a shot last season, especially after the playoffs were out of reach. However Masoli has certainly quelled any doubts that I had.
          Let’s keep it rolling indeed!

          • I guess we will never know if June Jones was being told not to play Collaros given that there was little advantage – it would risk injury and if he played poorly it would diminish his trade value. A part of me is still rooting for Collaros to have some success in the league and it will not be against the Ticats as it does not look like he will be participating in the upcoming home and home series.

          • TFMCB your definitely a Diehard fan of the status quo when it comes to the Cats. Haha.

  12. Masoli is the BEST PLAYING QB in the CFL in 2018. A great guy for Johnny Football to learn from in regards to leading a team and playing the CFL game the RIGHT WAY. Johnny will get his chance to shine. It just might not be in Hamilton unless Masoli gets hurt as 3 other CFL QB starters have so far this year.

    • If the Cats had got ahead by another touchdown fans would have seen Johnny Football. They did mention that on TSN as well. There will be an occasion when Masoli will be given a break, this season, and you can bet the store you will see Johnny.

      • Bigfoot. When ticats were up 3 touchdown which never changed in last quarter. Manziel should have gone in for some game reps and I am sure the TSN guys were thinking that. There seems to be this if Johnny goes in at that time for a series of downs and he moves the ball that he could not score. That is wrong. He needs game reps and that was a good opportunity.

  13. Thoughts A51? Your analysis is looking worse with each of Masoli’s performances. I have to admit a was skeptical of him as a full time starter as well but he has me fully convinced.

  14. Defening silence from Area 51. No class.

    • Wouldn’t surprise me if that poster has been banned. He/she had some good points, along with thoughts others (me included) disputed. But when what you write is usually coated in venom and vitriol, it’s gotta be likely that your privilege to write will be revoked.

      • Nah, prob on the BC Lion post ranting and raving after Esk’s destroyed them tonite. Has an apparent “hate-on” for Jennings and the Lions just like he has for Masoli and the TC’s. Or, maybe he has sunken into a state of depression knowing that his team’s QB is gone for the season and his often stated “franchise” QB is on the 6 game IR.

        • A51 is a Dbag // July 1, 2018 at 12:42 am //

All kinds of chirping from A51 on the other chains.
          Silence here.
Maybe he’s off “watching the tape” and “analyzing” before he makes a comment about how Masoli is still completely useless.

    • Paul Bomber // June 29, 2018 at 11:14 pm //

Why do you guys even read that clown’s posts? I’ve been skipping his crap for a while.

  15. So happy for Ti-Cats. Looking like a true contender this yr with Masoli at the helm. Went toe to toe w the Stamps, beat the Esks, and now the Bombs. Ti-Cats aren’t afraid of anyone.

  16. Masoli will win MOP and the Grey Cup.

Hope Manziel gets to play too

    • Man the T-Cats are set. Masoli looking solid and JM backing him up? I know we didn’t get a huge JM sample, but Id be pretty confident if I were a Ti-Cat fan.

  17. In was watching Manziel and it looks to me he has fully embraced his position as a backup learning and being a complete teammate. This team looks complete right now..

  18. Another complete game by all three phases of the team… Ticats are looking solid… if I was to be critical of anything…

1.) We get pressure but seldom get the QB… need more sacks and tackles for losses

2.) June Jones is a good coach but he blew the call for a two point convert… which failed and kept the points differential at 12 early in the game… if the Bombers were able to score a TD and a pair of FGs while stopping the Ticats… well we would have the same results as last year against the Stamps when Jones gambled and lost instead of taking the points which BTW was enough to win that game…

3.) Two calls by the refs left me scratching my head… Banks made a catch and was literally carried out of bounds by the DB… the ref called it incomplete because he didn’t get a foot down in bounds??? Then later Toliver was clearly interfered with on a deep pass… video replay at THF confirmed this so Jones challenged… but the command centre over ruled and the call in the field stayed… total BS…

    • Paul Bomber // June 29, 2018 at 11:20 pm //

I’m pretty sure the rule change this year says if you’re in the air, get hit and land out of bounds, it’s incomplete unlike previous years.
Otherwise, Hamilton got away with a couple of holds… take the win, be happy.

      • EVERY team usually gets away with a couple of holds! Just admit you were wrong and the Ticats were the better team!

        • BlueBomberChris // June 30, 2018 at 2:11 pm //

TFMCB you say this yet a few comments later you’re whining about the lack of PI on the interception, there’s something to be said for being gracious in defeat, but also humble in victory.

The fact is I guarantee you it will be a different game the next time we meet, will it be the same result; maybe but it’s week 3 and we’re still running with a raw rookie (who wasn’t the reason we lost). If we can clean up those blown defensive assignments then we absystabd a chance winning the rematch.

You can toot your own horn as much as you like but the fact of the matter is you and I cheer for the two teams that have yet to win a GC in the 21st century. Neither one of us is in the position of strength when it comes to bragging….you need to learn to read people’s entire comments rather than just zeroing in on one part of it

          • BlueBomberChris // June 30, 2018 at 2:12 pm //

Then we stand a good chance in the rematch**

Had a case of fat finger there lol

      • Tiger man // June 30, 2018 at 10:26 am //

Please take your anti-bitterness pills, now.

The symptoms are clearly showing and you’re embarrassing yourself.

    • Right you are Mr. Snake…esp. #3. I’ve come to the realization that win or lose, TC’s still get screwed by officiating…no other team even close.

  19. BTW the interception was all on Tolliver. And how was that PI challenge not interference!

    • Certainly the interception wasn’t on Masoli but Toliver slipped just as the ball arrived. As for the PI – I thought it could be overturned based on what has been called this season but the standard seems to change from week to week! Guess he didn’t hold his arm long enough! (never mind that he seemed to give Toliver a push).

  20. Many thought Ticats would start the season 0-5 after the brutal schedule that began with five western teams…

They might possibly go 4-1 after beating two of the best teams in the league…

    • Sea of Dead // June 30, 2018 at 2:22 pm //

The tough 1H Ticat schedule was also a concern I had as well …that along with an aging Glanville as DC with no prior CFL experience. But the Cats play and their coaching staff have erased those concerns.

Let’s hope that all this early success does not get to their heads and that they continue to play a strong game going forward and stay reasonably healthy. The team is looking absolutely terrific right now.

      • Laurant still a waste of money?Has he now proven his star status to you Sea of Dead?

        • Sea of Dead // June 30, 2018 at 8:03 pm //

Hopefully the Cats aren’t paying him the obscene amount they were on his prior contract. He’s a big body, looks somewhat more motivated than he was in 2016/17 but is he a superb Cdn talent that warrants top dollar? … Not convinced. Granted, he was great in 2015 but he hasn’t played at that level since.

  21. Where's Shultz? // June 29, 2018 at 11:15 pm //

If Masoli can pick apart the Sask defense like he has against the Bombers and Esks then we know he is here to stay. The Riders D is top tier (along with Stamps) playing in Regina will be his final test before I can truly believe.

  22. BlueBomberChris // June 29, 2018 at 11:21 pm //

One team came to play, one didn’t. Way too many guys way too open all night. Tabbies played great and we didn’t; I’ll eat the crow tonight. But we do have another game in our barn this time Hamilton; I’ll be there from my usual seats cheering us on.

This one was not on the rookie.

    • Cheer away – I doubt that the results will be much different – maybe a closer score. And just admit that your team got outplayed and out coached (by the old guys yet! – GASP!) If you want to say that they didn’t show up to play – so be it.

      • BlueBomberChris // June 30, 2018 at 8:34 am //

Did you miss the part where I said “tabbies played good and we didn’t”? I would say that’s admitting they got outplayed…

  23. HammerTime // June 29, 2018 at 11:32 pm //

Where’s that TEXAN dude who was saying Manziel will be everything this season? Haha what a fool you are TEXAN!

  24. I’ve often wondered where the hell we’d be if Austin was still the coach. Collaros would still be QB and we’d be 0-3. He was loyal to some players that June Jones sat or got rid of right away. What a difference a new coach makes.

    • More importantly, Jones is running a balanced offense most of the time.

I have no idea why Austin lost the ability to involve multiple QBs or recognise that Mathews was making too many mistakes.

    • Tiger man // June 30, 2018 at 10:33 am //

It’s not unusual for a new coach to re-evaluate and sometimes replace the incumbent starter.

We have no way of knowing the future, and your guessing is not fact.

It was Kent Austin who brought in and was loyal to a very inconsistent Jeremiah Masoli.

June Jones has a different offense, how can you compare the two??

And since June Jones hasn’t replaced many of Kent Austin’s players, it says something for his choices.

      • Cat Fan // June 30, 2018 at 5:15 pm //

        Loyal to an inconsistent Masoli?

Mathews struggled yet it took injuries for Masoli to play.

Masoli proved he could play as most wrote that an 0-6 start was a lock with Masoli as starter yet it was 3-3.

Collaros had a long string of losses yet Masoli did not play, even to give Collaros a chance to see what was happening.

Yet with the Burris and Lefevour combo there were special packages.

I don’t see Austin as loyal or using Masoli all that effectively.

  25. Jeremiah Masoli was the Player Of The Game.

    Faloney-esque.

  26. Dedmonton // June 29, 2018 at 11:59 pm //

Congratulations to Winnipeg for making it interesting. Hope Nichols is back in 6 and he lights it up immediately. If he does not, the season is lost.

    • Loser peg is alive and losing again, you see, nothings changed, same old lost hope

      • BlueBomberChris // June 30, 2018 at 3:53 pm //

Aww Davey, do you need to put other people down to feel better about yourself and stroke your ego? Go ahead stroke away, I’m pretty sure you’re used to that anyway 😉

  27. Peter North // June 30, 2018 at 12:09 am //

Cats offensive line might be the best in the league. Ciraco has been solid, playing like a veteran out there. Looking like a real smart 1st round pick when many thought the Cats reached a bit on that selection.

I love, Ryker Matthews, dude is a monster.

IF they can stay intact throughout the season, the sky is the limit for Masoli and the offense.

    • Tiger man // June 30, 2018 at 10:38 am //

      I agree, Peter.

This could be the unheralded factor in Masoli and the offense’s success.

He has had time to throw and has stayed pretty clean.

I was concerned when Bomben was replaced and they put a rookie on the line.

It has worked well so far.

Kudos, too, to the Oline coach.

      • We will also have a very capable backup or rotational player when Matthew Girard is ready to play as well.

        • Tiger man // June 30, 2018 at 10:54 am //

I remember a time, not so long ago, when our Oline was a big weakn ess.

I heard a commentator say the other day on the radio that Hamilton’s greatest depth is the Oline and most of them are Canadians.

It’s taken a while, but it’s great to see the positive fruits of the scouting and coaching staffs efforts.

      • JJ has always said that his first priority is building a strong OL to protect the QB – whatever that takes. Last night I heard that they played more with the usual 5 OL and didn’t have a TE in very often.

        • Tiger man // June 30, 2018 at 10:57 am //

It has been said that your offense goes as your Oline goes.

And, SO FAR, it’s going well.

          • I would take it one step further and say that the team only goes as far as the offensive line takes them. They are the players that keep your quarterback in one piece. Everyone thought Marc Trestmann was a genius last year – let’s see how far he goes without Ricky Ray – time will tell and I will be the first to admit if I am wrong and it happens frequently but I really believe your offensive line is the most important part of the team.

  28. Peter North // June 30, 2018 at 12:13 am //

Anyone know what happened to Leonard? I didn’t happen to see him in the secondary after halftime. Hope it’s just a minor thing and he doesn’t miss time.

He is a key cog in a secondary that is coming along nicely.

    • Tigers Coach // June 30, 2018 at 12:40 am //

You didn’t see him in the first half either; at least not on the field. He’s nicked up and didn’t dress tonight, but it sounds like it should only be one game.

  29. Great game all around by all players. Simoni and Dean were playing like men possessed and Masoli was his usual efficient, unflappable self. For sure not everything went as smoothly as one might want – a number of points left out on the field for sure – but they dominated the BBs in the 3rd quarter (outscored them 15-0) and held them overall to under 20 points! A good night for the Ticats!

  30. Scottsask // June 30, 2018 at 1:29 am //

    Johnny who?

  31. Check out the time of possession, 22:30 to 37:30. That’s crazy. If Masoli keeps playing like this Hamilton is going to be very tough to beat. The Riders better get something figured out for him.

  32. Everyone praising Masoli. However, the flaw is still there and it will bite him. During a game Masoli disappears for long periods. Hurt in game 1 when didn’t do much for last part of game. Seen again last night – got to 31 than nothing. Bombers still actually had chance stil. Rookie couldn’t pull it off. Should’ve been at least 31-24 in a game people are viewing as a blow-out. Happened last year when had a shot at play-offs – stalled late and let Argos come back for win. Stats are nice but this trend is dangerous.

    • Z3Cat – So it’s only Masoli who disappears? Not the opposing D maybe playing a bit better or taking things away? Not the OL allowing a sack or two? There are lots of reasons why the offense may not be producing points. It’s a team game and wins OR losses can’t only be pinned on one player, especially the QB.
Bombers didn’t really have much of a chance with the way the D was playing. Offense, defense STs all doing their part to help win – it’s called “complimentary football”.

    • Sea of Dead // June 30, 2018 at 2:44 pm //

Absolute nonsense! I’ll take what Masoli has been providing over any other active QB in the league right now. He has improved immensely this season and is even better than what we saw last season under JJ’s watch. It’s still early but no doubt in my mind that Masoli can be selected league MVP in 2018 if he stays healthy.

  33. Oh, yoo-hoo…Mr. Area51…where art thou? I want to hear you try to “unjustify” another brilliant performance by Masoli…you know…refer to him as “garbage”, “dumb”, “hack”, “scrub”…and of course dis his “village” whence he plays. So what does your “expert” prognosis say about him being one game away from tying a record for most consecutive 300 yard passing games in a row? Some pretty impressive company he would share with a legend like Sam Etcheverry, non? Sure looking forward to seeing Jeremiah go head to head versus your “franchise” QB the next 2 consecutive games. Oh, wait a minute…

    • A51 is a Dbag // June 30, 2018 at 9:14 am //

Methinks that A51 is busy because he is either:
-deep in negotiations to go front-office with a CFL club or,
-making plans for the holiday weekend to get out of his mom’s basement and take her to the mall.
      Good on him.

      • LOL! Funny how these “experts” go hide under a rock and ignore you when their face is covered in humble pie. Not to say Masoli will keep performing at this insane level but hey, at least give the kid some credit, he’s had a very good start, and admit that you were wrrrrrrrrrrong (sorry, I was thinking of an old Happy Days episode with Fonzie).

  34. The only reason the game was not a blowout is Banks and Tolliver dropping some easy passes or not looking at the ball as it came in on several occasions.

    • Grrr! I know…Tolliver, I’ll grant a mulligan…he’s just getting back in the fold. But Banks…for all the accolades…and he still does tend to drop easy ones…sigh.

  35. Manziel does not want or need to play. NFL GM,s want to see if he can be a humble supportive team mate to a super starter such as Masoli, Brady or Brees. He and his agent know that. So does June. His last 6 Browns games show he can play.

    • Tim, we do not give a damn about the NFL; Johnny Football works for the Cats and like other unplayed guys he will play!

  36. Jim Bob.. Right on right on.. Masoli is stocky, never really injured college and pros. Will play 8 more reaching 1 million CAD with new Cap in CBA and ESPN new deal.

  37. Prediction… Cats lock in playoff seed with 5 to go. Manziel plays and equals Jerry by last 2. Masoli Grey cup MOP. Cats looking at.. 1. Strike.. 2. 75k March bonus 3. QB controversy 4. Evans plays well also in Garbage time. Hammy releases Manziel to play in Alliance of American or AAF to audition for NFL Either he makes it or comes back to be #2 again.

  38. An AAF team has been announced in San Antonio which is close to John,s home town. I expect him there in January on the league’s home town rule.

Good game. The last few minutes were a bit too exciting for me, but the Bombers have a good team and this thing wasn’t over until they turned the ball over on downs in the last minute.

This Cat team is fun to watch and winning is a lot more fun than losing. The addition of Green and Chapman in to the mix would make this team have even more depth. Only three games in so we can’t get carried away, but looking very promising so far!

Where are you TEXAN? Oh right, you’re just a “reporter” at 3D so you disappeared.

    • Hi Hammertime! Hope you had a great Saturday.

I have been busy celebrating my country ( the strongest on earth) since the great win by the Ti-Cats last night.

Sorry wasn’t able to respond to your requests for me till now.

First thing to address is that I never said JFF would be “everything” this year for the Ti-Cats.

Second thing is something about being a “reporter” for 3D. Have no clue what you are talking about.

As you will see way before asking for me I posted about 20 comments or so after the game last night. Just requires a little reading.

Anyway thanks for asking me to respond as I already had. Hope you have a great weekend and get ready for next weeks game.

  41. Everybody forgets Masoli had an outstanding 4 year college career in PAC 10 and SEC. Tough Rose bowl loss against Ohio State. Heisman candidate. He was never an NFL prospect though because he is 5’10 and had several guilty pleas in Oregon. He and Manziel are clones.

    • Wendel there is no comparison with Johnny football and Masoli coming out of college. Not even close. Manziel was a super star in only 2 years in college

      • Steve J. // June 30, 2018 at 3:16 pm //

Maybe, but when you look at the success Masoli has had compared to Manziel at the professional level, Jeremiah is clearly the better QB so far. That’s not to say that Manziel won’t be a good CFL Quarterback. What happened in the past doesn’t mean s**t in the real world. He’ll have his chance, just not today.

      • @ John. Johnny Football said that he was a big fan of Jerry Masoli when Jerry played college ball.

        • Yes he says great things and he likes Masoli. Manziel was watching him when he was in grade 8. Mazoli was like gone from college when Manziel became a legend In later high school years.

Understand college teams nominate good players as candidates for Heisman. Do you know how many colleges submit candidates. Henry Burris was suggesting the same as Wendell above. He is wrong in that regard. There are 5 finalists for Heisman. Being selected as a finalist or better yet win as a freshman (never done history made)
tells you how talented a person is and also coming in third as finalist for Heisman in 2nd year then being drafted as a young qb in first round is superior talent.

howevwr Masoli is doing amazing and Manziel respects him as a quarterback watching him as starter this year.

All that off season talk that Hamilton would be 0 for at this point and our coaches would need naps at half time. Well the way our defence is coming along Gerry can go have a nap in the 4th quarter if he wants. Said it before I don’t care if he’s 80 if he has the knowledge and experience. He has charisma and character and the players love him. Well that really goes for both of those old goats we got coaching! Oskee wee wee

  43. Masoli is going to have an off game (it’s inevitable; no QB doesn’t have one), and I’m sure the [gutless] critics will return in force given opportunity to spew, but unless he establishes a pattern of poor play Manziel’s chances will be limited. I do however hope he gets put into some games, either to spell Jeremiah or in specific situations… it’s part of his learning curve, just as it was for Masoli.

  44. RalphInTheCreek // July 1, 2018 at 7:01 am //

Chris Williams is getting back to his super fast self and scoring TD’s show hes putting his injuries days behind him.

  45. David Tress // July 2, 2018 at 9:41 am //

Masoli will start but Manziel is likely to receive playing time. Then the American media will be all over the place and they’re going to want a team in the US again.

    • Steve J. // July 3, 2018 at 11:32 pm //

You’re hilarious, Dave! It’ the “Canadian” Football League. Are you too young to remember the last time we tried that disastrous move?
