Faith Ekakitie suffers torn Achilles, will miss entire 2018 season

Montreal Alouettes’ defensive tackle Faith Ekakitie has suffered a season-ending injury.

The 2017 first overall pick tore his Achilles during practice with the Alouettes on Tuesday, per source, and will not suit up for his new team this year.

Ekakitie was released by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers after training camp, just thirteen months after he was selected with the top pick in last year’s CFL draft.

  1. Those Achilles are the Achilles of all football players it would seem. Nothing wrecks a a career more often

  2. I feel for the guy, I have also torn my Achilless and it’s a long road back, I’m still not there. That said, conditioning has a lot to do with this injury….and wasn’t that part of the reason he was released? All the best in his recovery tho!

Another injury during practice, are players getting taped properly or the same when they on the practice field as apposed to game time? Curious?
    Get well soon.

This type of injury didn’t seem to slow down William Powell. That being said not everyone comes back the same. Good luck and speedy recovery to the young man.

I wonder if conditioning had something to do with this injury and the Bombers decision to cut him loose? He was so highly rated out of college, too bad he’s struggling as a pro. All the best on your rehab, big fella!

There’s been a number of these with no contact, notably Darian Durant. My physical therapist says it’s from drugs. Other opinions?

  7. The great news for Ekakitie is that he gets to collect a paycheque for the rest of this year and some of next as long as he’s still injured.

That’s a pretty good consolation prize for a fat and lazy 1st round bust who’s career appeared over after just ONE (1) season.

    • Sadly you are right, this guy goes number 1 in the draft and can’t make the team and then released.
You have to feel sorry for the Als, they signed him thinking that maybe he will regain his college form.
Then he blows an achilles before he plays his first game.

ACLs happen all the time regardless of the player and the circumstances. Sorry to see it happen to any player. Hopefully Faith will hit the rehab big time after surgery and make a comeback in 2019.
