Riders’ Duron Carter up and down game at DB against Redblacks

Duron Carter has two starts at defensive back and two interceptions for touchdowns.

Trevor Harris is the latest victim of Carter’s mitts on defence.

Carter made a diving grab on an errant Harris throw, got up off the turf and took it back 28 yards for a major.

Afterwards, on the sidelines, TSN mics picked up Carter saying: “Best player in the league. How many fantasy points do I get for that?”

It’s worth six for the Riders either way.

In the lead up to the Oct. 20 game in 2017, Calgary quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell warned Carter on Twitter not to play defensive back and Carter replied that the gunslinger better put his chasing cleats on. Carter delivered by picking off Mitchell and returning it for a touchdown.

In the second half, Diontae Spencer beat Carter on a go route for a 56-yard touchdown. And in the fourth quarter, Carter was flagged for pass interference and illegal contact on a receiver which drew Carter chants from the enthusiastic Ottawa crowd. The drive resulted in a touchdown for the Redblacks.

“He’s going against a very good player in Diontae Spencer who made one play against him,” head coach Chris Jones said. “Playing DB is not always glamorous.”

  1. Nice play
Too bad he had to ruin it by getting in the Redblacks bench then telling us -twice- how he is the best player in the league.

  2. He got blown big time on RB TD of course 3DN won’t say anything about this

  3. Pennyrocker // June 21, 2018 at 9:07 pm //

Awesome work on Carter keep it coming

  4. Note to programming geniuses at TSN: at halftime – more football analysis and fewer morbidly obese singers!

    • No more Rod smith either

    • 3DownNation comments have hit a new low. Congrats to you, sir.

      • I thought calling that awful warbling noise “singing” was extremely generous. I will tune in to Muchmusic or something if I want that sort of meager entertainment. I don’t enjoy Super Bowl half time shows either.

You’re a poor excuse for a human. (and would you really rather listen to henry burris? That just sounds pathetic)
Buy a pvr, start watching the games 1/2 an hour late and stop being an ugly person.

      • Yes, I would rather listen to Henry Burris. I would rather listen to Henry Burris and Rod Black sing a duet for crying out loud. I am entitled to my opinion on their programming and like it or not saying she was morbidly obese is simply a statement of fact and not an opinion in any way shape or form. I also never, ever denigrate or insult other posters unlike yourself.

You green fans debate amongst yourselves but from hat I saw, duron cost you the game., uh in 5;21…

    • carter was burned 2 times had to take a pass interference that led to another redblack td, so yes, its his fault both times 🙂 why not show more of his blunders 3d nation stop being so biased for carter hes not that good.

      • Brandon Bridge did not do much either – I was surprised that he only produced 3 points. Calgary better be prepared for Redblacks next week.

        @ ryan…

I like the sentiment. But, It’s not a bias towards Carter. It’s a bias towards the Riders, and their fanbase. How hard is it to sell lemonade in the desert… if you have the only lemonade stand in the whole damn desert ? That is the Riders. They are literally the ONLY game in the whole province. And as I had to spend 15 mos there in the mid 80s, with a job transfer. I believe it lends credence to my opinion. It’s not just a blind hatred. Funny though… in the mid 80s the Riders were EVERYBODY’S second favourite team. Now they are flat out, the most hated team in the league.

I get that 3down gets revenue from clicks. So just like the clowns running the CFL, and TSN. They’ve sold their soul to the devil. While lacking any credibility whatsoever. 3down is getting PAID. And, it’s obvious that’s ALL they care about. Again though… They’ve only followed the lead of the CFL, and TSN. It’s actually a sound “ business plan “. Plus, I think that Rider haters also click that mouse. So, it’s more revenue to all concerned. It’s just that it’s a really sleazy way to earn a living, imo.

I get all of it. But, knock off the BS, 3down. That team is trash. The chickens are coming home to roost. They did not deserve to win last week. And only the blind mice on the field. And an epic horribly bad non-challenge by Trestman garnered the Riders the win. So, of course…The Riders were God’s gift to Canada this last week.

I still expect to see more than 50% of the stories on pg 1 being about the Riders, again this next week. But, there is no spin that fixes the craptacular mess that is the Riders. Or their humiliating defeat after embarrassing crap talk by TSN, 3down, the Riders, and their fans.

But, the pro-Rider bias from the very TOP of the CFL has the Als visiting Regina next week. My guess is that will be 3 down’s focus in the week to come. Not the crap kicking they took in Ottawa.

Nobody from the league, TSN, or anywhere else even tries to hide the pro-Rider bias anymore. Why should a site like 3down ? I wonder though if those responsible sometimes spend 30 minutes in a scalding hot shower at night. Just to try to wash the stink away.

        I still smell you.

        • there is nothing wrong with the riders or its fan base its the arrogant ones like messam and carter that always make predictions that nver pan out, the team otherwise is solid.

        • Your “job transfer” wasn’t an out of Province transfer to the Prince Albert Penitentiary by chance was it ?

Seem kind of angry, and your reference to scalding hot showers at night would explain a lot.

        • True Green // June 22, 2018 at 9:31 am //

Wow, you spent 15 months here 35 years ago? Probably in one location? You do realize how similar Edmonton and Saskatoon are don’t you? Saskatoon is basically a small Edmonton, minus the political hacks. That’s right, we actually rely on business and entrepreneurship as opposed to government orgs and jobs.

You’re an embarrassment to your city and your province. When someone makes judgements like that based on 36 years ago I have to feel very sorry for your resentful mind.

        • Do you really think that anybody reads these long posts…

  10. Carter was burnes more than once. Pretty sure he jinxed himself.

Redblacks have also been pleaying really well, and the Riders are playing worse than preseason.

Congrats Redblacks, you deserve the win tonight.

  11. MR. Green // June 21, 2018 at 10:23 pm //

Like I said to my locals here, Bridge is overrated and sucks as a starter. A 2nd stringer at best. He looks brutal.
If last week’s Riders played today’s Riders last week’s wins 62-0. Looked not ready step behind.
Ottawa took advantage of this advantage and deserved this. We will beat them next time without a doubt.
Hopefully Collaros is back, he looked like he was getting comftorable. Pick 6 was a terrible route by a rookie. The other pick six was a lucky helmet bounce. His potential concussion was a helmet to helmet not called.
We’ll be fine. Rder fans are use to this ups and downs. Short week and travel don’t equall excuses. Need to play faster and harder like week 1.

  12. Also, I cannot spell. Maybe I should wait till it’s over so I can spell check.

  13. Best player in the league? Last week you would of swore they were winning the grey cup nothing but crickets now???

  14. For sure // June 21, 2018 at 10:32 pm //

Duron goes from hero to zero within one game. Still think he is the best player in the CFL?

  15. Well – the Lumberjacks watched film, came out and kicked our ass in every aspect of the game from start to finish.

Not going to win any games if you throw more receptions in the end zone to the opposite team.

Congratulations Ottawa on a dominant win.

    • You mean all that film on Bridge? Pretty weak excuse, Yup.

      • Explain to me oh dense one….where in the hell in my statement…..did I ever make an “excuse” ???

    • BC Bomber // June 21, 2018 at 11:09 pm //

      Classy! Well said, Yup.

      • BC Bomber – not according to dork snot above. Apparently I made an excuse ???

        • BC Bomber // June 22, 2018 at 12:36 am //

Stay classy, Yup, ignore the ignorant! Save your responses for the intelligent posters so we can generate some adult conversations about football instead of the mind-numbing drivel so many offer here.

          • Cheers sir.

          • Let the haters hate. The Riders will bounce back from this. Its interesting hearing them talk as if the season is over. The Riders lost 1 game, it’s not like it was the cup or anything, in fact they still have just as many wins as anyone else in the entire league!

    • White Horse // June 22, 2018 at 12:13 am //

Hopefully this will shut up some green mouth who keep telling us they are Grey Cup bound. Looks good on them.

      • yeah it reminds me of the red mouths who wouldnt shut up last year saying they were gonna wint he grey cup, guarenteed, then we see noth ing of them for the next 7 months 😀

  16. Carter the classless clown told the redblacks reciever that he was going to have the worst day of his life….receivers response? “check the scoreboard” hilarious comeback! much funnier than same ol shyt loudmouth carter 😀

  17. Evil Empire // June 21, 2018 at 10:38 pm //

Yeah, but he gave the other team a TD back on two penalties later. At the absolute most desperate time they needed a stop to stay in the game.

Way to go Jones. That guy is clueless. They actually pay that guy to play players out of position ? And they think they’re getting value for their dollar ? Play Cater on D. Go buy another useless QB. The meltdown has popcorn written all over it. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED ? LOL.

First West team to lose to the East. Some things never change. Even with their amazingly lopsided early schedule in their favour. If they lose to the East, as they should have last week. What’s going to happen when they play against the West ? Keep going Jones. Bury that low class, cheating, franchise before they send you down the road.

Biggest fraud in CFL history is Jones. He’s won with teams built by other ppl. He couldn’t put a good team together on his own if his life depended on it. I’m glad he’s been exposed.

  18. Provemewrong // June 21, 2018 at 10:41 pm //

  19. DC did ok for playing corner for only the second stat of his career. But it’s obvious that the offence needs him more based on the output both ways tonight.

Can’t sugar coat it, Ottawa was the better team tonight.

  20. Provemewrong // June 21, 2018 at 10:47 pm //

Did you just LOVE how Carter got his #ss handed to him on that 3rd qtr TD throw!!!!

    • For sure // June 21, 2018 at 10:55 pm //

Funny how TSN said on Duron’s interception that Duron is so tall that they couldn’t throw it over top of him. Oh yeah? Well they did just that to Spencer for a TD. Best player in the CFL? Not even close.

  21. Provemewrong // June 21, 2018 at 11:05 pm //

DC is the MOST over rated player in the CFL!!! And Jones, best coaching MISTAKE EVER!!!! Keep it up sliders!!!

    • George Fogarty // June 22, 2018 at 7:55 am //

Good game, Sask needs to dump Jones. Bridge will be a great QB with more playing time, start the kid and leave him in. He’ll make mistakes, but he will also make the plays with time. Tell Carter to concentrate on playing the game and less concentration on pontificating about himself and others and he will also be a better player.

  22. What an embarrassment that Duron Carter is the best you can find for a starting CB.

The guy is completely lost on defence.

Picks off a horribly off target throw from Harris and follows a convoy of blockers 20yds to the end zone. Big deal. A high school DB could have made that play.

Getting torched by Spencer was absolutely laughable.

WTF was Carter doing flopping his arms and stumbling along behind Spencer – – did he forget DBs are supposed to know how to tackle?

Then two costly PI calls in the 4th.

A competent coach would never allow Carter to embarrass himself at CB again.

  23. True Green // June 22, 2018 at 12:15 am //

Congrats to the RBs who deserved that win and owned us in all aspects of the game.

D, what happened to you? Oline, do we even have one? Bridge, proved himself to be a back up QB. Carter, great pic 6 and I can’t blame him for missing Spencer who is an excellent play maker but he has to be conscious of the attention he gets from refs and he needs to shut his trap during the game. Celebrate with a win not a big play.

I’m not blaming refs, this is a legit questions: did the first call against him for interference look like the reciever ran into him? I’m not sure how good that call was.

And Collaros, probably the best part of the game for me was seeing him find his game. Yeah, he threw 2 INTs but they happen to every QB and I was impressed with the effort of the second one which should have been thrown just a little harder but that was not for lack of arm strength. He looked real good when he was actually standing and able to play. Our Line is our weakest spot.

Yeah it’s a loss but they will learn a lot from tonight and bounce back next week. Go Riders!

  24. True Green // June 22, 2018 at 12:18 am //

And thanks to my fellow rider fans like Mr Green and Yup who don’t wallow in the loss and are happy to praise he winning team. My experience is most rider fans are legit football fans who don’t view the world in green goggles or hatred for other teams. All of the haters on here, your posts were ignored.

  25. You can’t win with the worst OLine in the league. I laughed when the experts here said Sask to compete for top spot. LOL. Like I said last week the Riders and BC will compete for the basement.

    • It defies logic to have an OLine that bad when they’re starting THREE (3) Imports on it.

      • Agreed. There is no way they should be as bad as they are. They suck right now. Its a good thing it’s still early and there is still time to improve!

    • BigBlue, can you remind us how many wins your team has this year?

  26. Tiger man // June 22, 2018 at 7:33 am //

Didn’t Carter say in the days leading up to last night’s game that the DB position was EASY!!!

I guess he said that while he was still “high”.

In sober hindsight, he found out that the other team gets paid to play too.

DC, you may want to stay on defense, in case you haven’t heard, Delvin Breaux is back in Hamilton.

  27. Tiger man // June 22, 2018 at 8:18 am //

I said earlier that the greenies have a bad Oline…Last night Collaros had the Ottawa Dline all around him. They made the two tones look good with their poor play…

I believed that Zach would not be playing long before he got injured there….unfortunately, I was right.

Before the end of the season, Jones and the riders will be down to their third string quarterback…

  28. Pennyrocker // June 22, 2018 at 10:25 am //

Despite what others may think about ,you as a DB you played great. You are going to be an awesome two way player and not too many players can switch from offense to defense.

    • Tiger man // June 22, 2018 at 12:26 pm //

Sure they can, if they can play down to Carter’s ability…or lack of.

By all means encourage him…the rest of the teams can use the two points…

  29. The two penalty calls on Carter and none on the Redblacks when two of their hits causing drop balls were not called showed some less than stellar ref calls.

The two penalties on Carter should lead to the flag tosser being sent back to school as they were lame.
