Duron Carter on marijuana charges: ‘You should be worried about being in legal trouble’

Duron Carter provided a little insight into the two marijuana charges he is facing.

“I have my own lawyers that [are] handling it. We’re also working with the teams’ lawyers and immigration and getting it set. For me, it’s smooth sailing,” Carter told reporters on Tuesday.

“I guess you should be worried about being in any type of legal trouble.”

The Saskatchewan Roughriders star joked about the fact the last time he was in Saskatoon he was in court, instead of on a football field.

Carter was charged on Feb. 1 after security officers at the Saskatoon airport found marijuana in his bag following a search. He was also found with marijuana at the Winnipeg airport last November – possibly pot cookies.

The 27-year-old Carter believes the two charges actually helped sales of his jersey while the league and commissioner Randy Ambrosie aren’t expected to discipline Carter.

  1. Really ??

  2. Click meet Bait. Why can’t 3D just write one BIG article that incorporates everything instead of all this rinky dink stuff eh? Their new motto should be “for the children BY the children”…

  3. Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 7:35 pm //

Yes Duron, you really should be worried.
Sounds like alot of lawyers are involved.
Duron’s actions suggest he doesn’t believe these words

  4. MR. Green // May 21, 2018 at 7:38 pm //

Duron is being a great leader at camp. Even when he is covering as a DB, after the play he is helping his new recievers.
They guy is the most approachable guy for all CFL fans and loves to interact. How can you not love him, even after making mistakes, especially when he only hurt himself, not others. Good people screw up. Ffs, even our PM smokes it. I did in my 20’s. Still flourished at my job. Getting promoted and trusted. Marijuana is the laws least worrisome drug. He carried it wrong, but the courts will deal with it and we can continue to focus on football and how this man promotes and loves the CFL.

    • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 7:55 pm //

Did he also save some baby ducks crossing the street?

      • MR. Green // May 21, 2018 at 7:58 pm //

Funny you mentioned that. HE DID! The guy is a compassionate human being. Why,………were you hungry?

        • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 8:01 pm //

Compassionate enough to knock a smaller, defenseless man over while whe had pads and a helmet on…right!

    • Take this // May 21, 2018 at 8:20 pm //

Sure, now Duron is helping his new receivers but when it is game on, he will be whining if a new receiver gets more targets then he does. Not the kind of player that I typically think of as a good influence on the rookies, unless you want them to learn to whine and take penalties for beaking off.
If you want to endorse marijuana, I would avoid linking it to Trudeau, who I believe history will show to be the worst prime minister in history. Not to say that it is marijuana that makes him so stupid but, at the same time, I wouldn’t use an ineffective leader to even promote a selfy stick.
I actually find it very easy to not love Duron Carter. He did not only hurt himself but has hurt the image of the Riders, as much with his classless joking about being caught and improving his jersey sales. If he has that many lawyers to deal with plus immigration, it would be wise of him to take it seriously and show some remorse and respect for the laws, for Canada and for the CFL. He only loves the CFL because some team let’s him play. He pretty much admitted that when he commented that some day he would be gone and he is basically going to squeeze whatever he can out of it now. He doesn’t promote the CFL. He only promotes himself. I have never heard him say that the CFL has some talented receivers or defensive backs or quarterbacks or running backs. I have only heard him say that he is so much better then anyone else in the league, although the stats don’t support that. That is not promoting the CFL; that is only shameless self promotion. If Duron is good for the CFL, then this league is in big trouble. I will wait to hear everyone’s opinion after the next time that he crashes and burns on the field.

    • How do you stop Duron from smoking pot. Point out to him that he could end up like MR. Green.

  5. Red any number larger than 2 is “a lot” for you eh? Didn’t learn to count much higher did you. How was stalking and ogling from your car today? Hahaha still can’t believe that. Maybe don’t eat all those trans fats and you’d be more prone to walking than sitting and watching grown men practice in tights.

    • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 7:45 pm //

How many lawyers do you have working for you currently to fight off criminal charges????
      Thought so

      • MR. Green // May 21, 2018 at 7:51 pm //

Less than Finch. He’s looking at real jail time. Calgary is stupid for not releasing him and getting himps name separate from the team. Violent crimes and jeapordizing other human lives by driving like a maniac, but they stand behind him. Sickest franchise in sports.
Red is still upset his parents never raised him in Regina so he could be a Rider fan. He’s stuck with that sorry team and is to dumb to move on.

        • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 7:56 pm //

Kinda like signing a 2 time drug trafficker????

        • Don't_like_Green // May 22, 2018 at 4:04 pm //

          Mr. Green:
Just to clarify :Finch was not driving like a maniac when he was arrested by the WHITE Cops down south. He was parked for over an hour smoking dope, and a neighbor where he was parked reported his car to the cops as suspicious. He resisted the attempts to his arrest by trying to run for it and the cops hit him with a taser gun then proceeded to punch his lights out (gave him a black eye)
Also your comments about the Stamps distancing themselves from Finch is ridiculous. He has not been found guilty of anything only been charged. Everyone in both countries are presumed innocent until proved in a court of law otherwise. Not by jealous Rider fans who wish they had Finch on their team. Chris Jones on the other hand was found guilty of violating the league rules and heavily fined (so was your Rider team) yet you rider bloggers stood behind him and defended his actions by claiming (without a shred of proof) that other teams were doing the same. Hypocritical of you with your comments about Finch and the Stamps, right??? Don’t worry I don’t expect you to agree since your are very Hypocritical at all times when discussing the Stampeder organization.
By the way the Riders hold the record of violating the wage cap (3 in total 2 in a row and one in to win the cup). Also hold the record of CHOKING 5 times in a row at the grey cup! 1928 – 1932. So don’t bother to bring up those failed GC Calgary has been in to attack the Stamps because that to is hypocritical.

  6. MR. Green // May 21, 2018 at 7:41 pm //

I see Nik Lewis is in Saskatoon helping Travis Moore as a receivers coach. Wonder if the Riders will find a spot for him after camp?

    • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 7:59 pm //

The man is bored in Regina.

    • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 8:03 pm //

2 former Stampeder greats!! probably taking about their Stamp days.
Don’t it always seem to go , that you don;t know what you got ’till it’s gone.

      • MR. Green // May 21, 2018 at 8:07 pm //

Two fomer Stamps reminiscing on how happy they are not to have to deal with 3rd rate facilities. Right Charleston? No more sheds on wheels.

        • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 8:13 pm //

a former rider says Calgary is the place all players want to play. That’s a fact

          • Then why do they play for less in Sask. 4th is about it for cal. this year…GO RIDERS GO…CANADA’S TEAM111

  7. I’ll take it a step further and suggest the cops should check out exactly what Red is doing in his car while he stalks men in tights from afar. Banned from 500 yards of playgrounds and soon to be McDump practice fields hahaha.

  8. Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 7:53 pm //

Hey Yup and everyone who hates me, do you go onto cfl dot ca? under “Off to the Races: Training camp arrives in full force” story there is a pic I posted. Check it out if you have a chance

    .

  9. I’m surprised his lawyers haven’t told him to stay quiet until after this is resolved. Hate to think his judge takes this as a lack of remorse when he goes to trial. Better to not appear to be too confident!

    • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 8:19 pm //

His lawyers probably are telling him to stay quiet. But when Chris Carter holdings is paying you $1,000.00 per hour, you say to yourself,,,,,,,”whatever, do what you want spoiled brat”
Pretty dumb. Talking about “random thoughts of nothingness”and bragging about increased fandom because of the charge certainly can’t help your case and certainly don’t suggest he’s as worried as he claims

  10. Take this // May 21, 2018 at 8:29 pm //

And yet the Duron lovers will tell you that he is very intelligent. I don’t believe that bragging and joking about these charges is very intelligent.

  11. There’s absolutely nothing in this thread that is very intelligent…dying a merciful death, hopefully.

Basically Carter is the CFL answer to OJ Simpson. We will probably get away with it but everyone knows he’s guilty. His dream team will get him off

    • You seriously related the two. Wow…Loco

    • Lancaster/Reed // May 21, 2018 at 9:26 pm //

Cfl already has one of those. 4 year stamp player McClanahan. Never played a down for another cfl team. Hes all stamp, all the time.

      • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 9:56 pm //

        lol
“never played a down for another CFL team”
        Very strategically stated!!!
Of course, despite your attempt at artful language, everyone knows he tried out with the rIDERS.
That’s actually an interesting story, thanks for opening the door to it.
Calgary cut him after neck surgery, Wally was fearful for his well being and wouldn’t allow him back on the field, fearful of permanent injury or death!
I guess the riders weren’t concerned about that. Waiver was signed, no liability for them. That’s all they cared about,

        • Lancaster/Reed // May 21, 2018 at 10:17 pm //

Doesnt change the fact that the only cfl murderer was a long time stampeder. 4 years, plenty enough time to pick up a teams culture and morals. His time in sask was a blip on the radar. Sorry red but the murderer is all yours.

        • Lancaster/Reed // May 21, 2018 at 10:25 pm //

    • Lancaster/Reed // May 21, 2018 at 9:53 pm //

And that is from someone who called durant classless. Red has zero self awareness. Another warning sign of a psychopath.

  18. Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 10:00 pm //

    Let me clarify
Not similar in crime. Of course murder is far more serious.
Similar in outcome! Both were able to buy justice and neither had the capacity to understand the problems with what they did or take responsibility for it.

  19. Manyhandles – you don’t have a Possession Acquisition License by chance do you ?

  20. did I see a comparison to OJ up there? Hell why stop there Red? Let’s lump him in with Manson, the Menendez brothers, the guy from Silence of the Lambs, who else, who else, The Unibomber, Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, Heath Ledger as the Joker,….the list goes on! LOL.

  21. Barry Soetoro // May 21, 2018 at 10:16 pm //

So, the Riders have immigration lawyers on the payroll. All for this million dollar athlete with a two-bit brain. Tell me again how his actions don’t harm other people.

    • Lancaster/Reed // May 21, 2018 at 10:20 pm //

What person was harmed? Lawyers were hired. Were they harmed by getting a job?

      • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 10:29 pm //

        Who’s harmed??
        How about Canadian tax payers??
How about the murder victims because of murderers who walk free due to our court system that’s backed up with this sort of nonsense- committed not once, but twice
Think beyond the one handed catches for once.

        • Lancaster/Reed // May 21, 2018 at 10:45 pm //

Again, so duron is personally responsible for murderers walking free. No ridiculous hyperbole there. How about you red, and those stalker charges you are fighting. Those arent tying up the courts?

lol I knew you were going to come back with that.
You are hopeless, you just refuse to get the point don’t you?

Holy f*ck! Do you listen to yourself? Youre the one saying duron is responsible for murderers walking free. Get yourself committed to that psychiatric hospital asap.

          • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 11:23 pm //

I’m saying Carter is a foreigner who has willingly and purposely broken our laws twice. He is CONTRIBUTING to the back up and work load of our tax funded crown based justice system.
This is just glossed over by riders fans yet Roy Finch, who’s crime has no effect on us as Canadians, seems to be a big issue for rider fans.
How can you justify this double standard?

          • Lancaster/Reed // May 21, 2018 at 11:37 pm //

Red, im more worried about you and your threats to harm me. Get psychiatric help. I dont want to get the courts involved with your threat, but if you dont get help, for the good of society, i will have to. Save the court system you are so concerned about some money and self-commit yourself before the courts have to order it.

Like you red, mcclanahan was a psycho way back when he played. You cant hide that type of personality.

          • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 11:27 pm //

Well, if he was a psycho, what would that make a player who knocks the opposing coach down during a game?

  22. Duron’s ass should be kicked out of Canada one he is convicted of TWO drug possession charges. However Canada is SO SOFT on crime Cartier’s charges will be pleaded down to a Conditional Discharges on both offenses, thereby allowing Duron to remain a Slider and a model citizen to all the loyal Slider fans and their adolescent and teenage children. Duron a true role model indeed…no wonder Slider fans are so fuc*ed up.

Remember las fall when sask beat calgary in calgary when 2 times the riders were in a victory formation, and multiple stampeders , davis was one, hard charged the line trying to slam-dive over in an attempt to injure an unsuspecting Glenn? All class those stampeders. Classy in defeat too in the grey cup, throwing teammates under the bus.

        • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 11:06 pm //

Because the riders were beaking off, just like their fans.

          • Lancaster/Reed // May 21, 2018 at 11:11 pm //

Unlikely. Stamps are just sore losers. And if the riders talked some smack, that condones an attempt to injure? Of course in your eyes it does. Thats why you threatened to poison me. Psycho.

          • Lancaster/Reed // May 21, 2018 at 11:48 pm //

Lmfao. Actually red you are wrong, again . Before half it was #95 davis, and at the end of the game it was #35 Richardson. Hughes wasnt on the field at the half, and was calm at the end. Such a big mouth combined with a small brain makes you a dangerous person red. Thats why you need help.

        • Mr Red. // May 22, 2018 at 12:01 am //

Yeah but Hughes was the leader of the front 7, he must have set the culture.
Anyways, whatever the case I’m not going to cry because a few rider fans are sobbing because their feelings were hurt while at the same time defending Carter for running over Rick Campbell.

      • I didn’t cheer that whatsoever. God you’re insane. Listen to yourself…just read what you type afterwards as well. You make NO SENSE. What’s your highest level of education? Grade 8 I presume. And to the rest of Stamps fans, don’t worry we do not lump you in with this rube. Unfortunately he doesn’t show the same respect.

  25. I hope he gets deported because Jones is too bull-headed to cut him. Jones figures his resume would look better if he was the guy that got Duron Carter’s brain into gear. It’s been in neutral his whole life.

    • Mr Red. // May 21, 2018 at 10:49 pm //

BINGO….. that’s what it’s about with Carter and all the troubled players he brings in. If you can show you can reform guys, you can write your ticket to the NCAA. That’s what Jones is doing in Sask, He’s basically show casing himself for the NCAA

      • Red you have showcased time and time again that you have no football knowledge and clearly no managerial or executive traits. I refuse to include you in the Stamps proud history because you continue to demonstrate insecurities and continue to engage in teenage type conversation. You are beyond help at this point.

Yes he was, 1/3 of his cfl career was as a stamp, and the stamps signed him AFTER he had been charged with sexual assault. So 2 murderers in stampeder uniforms. You will have to forgive us rider fans if we dont want to emulate the morality of the stampeder organaization.

2 seperate stamp murderers red. Mcclanahan and philips. Someone has to die for murder charges. Trevis was charged with sexual assault, not murder. Im not aware that anyone died as a result. You know you can look this stuff up , right?

lol I forgot about that. You have a good memory. Mercury killings are now the leading methods of homicide in North America. It’s so easy to find at your local grocery stores and pharmacies.

    Another dime bag Duron story…

Enough of all this garbage. You people are ruining what could, and used to be, an excellent forum for discussions about nine CFL teams. Now it has regressed into a Riders/Stamps verbal wrestling match. Some of you want to shut Red out yet you call him.out if he isn’t one of the first contributers. You go around and around as to which team is worse, which team has had less savoury characters on their roster, even who can put the most derogatory name on the others coaches and players. Stop and think about all this. None of you are CFL fans. If you were fans that want to see the league prosper, you would not insult each other’s stadiums. That’s where our games are played. You certainly would not give vile nicknames to coaches and GMs who are working to keep this league alive. You would not compare players to determine whose have been worse but agree that any player with a record is hardly a good ambassador for the league you all claim to love. So some of you don’t like Jones and Duron Carter. Some of you don’t like Hufnagel and Dickenson. Fine. Discuss that. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. But can’t you keep it civilized and perhaps interesting for the rest of us to read? You all sound like a bunch of grade six bullies. Does it keep you awake nights trying to come up with the ultimate insult? The most degrading name? Perhaps you should all back off from this site until you can put it all in perspective and have some reasonable conversations. And let the rest of us enjoy this site again instead of it being totally dominated by these personal arguments that are no longer about football but are only about one-up-manship.

Good luck with that, Slow Down. It’s summer & we SHOULD be talking football. But I’d rather be golfing than waste my time dumpster diving through hundreds of comments mostly saying the same things regardless of the subject matter. Riders rule, Stamps suck. Stamps rule, Riders suck. Beautiful day. Wasted too much time here already. The playground’s open, boys. Have fun with, you know, the usual.

Since when do the Riders provide legal help to defend players who have broken the law? Is this another “only for Duron” service? Or is this common practice? I don’t believe this should be the Riders responsibility and his defence should not cost the Riders any money. Duron was not charged with anything even remotely connected to football. It should be on his shoulders to arrange his legal team and his defence. Why is someone constantly assisting him.in matters that are his responsibility? No wonder he has never grown up. Time for him to actually own up to something.

There are 2 sets of policies and procedures for the riders; one for everyone and one for Duron Carter. The time, energy and resources Chris Jones put’s into Carter is both staggering and puzzling. Soon it will bite Jones in is ample behind.
Rider fans think everyone loves everyone in that locker room, A contrived picture of a bowling evening after the big practice fight verifies it in their minds. But anyone who has lived knows this cant be the case. Carter’s personality and the way he is treated is going to cause many people not to like him. Jones just hopes the eruption holds off until he gets a big NCAA job. After that, he doesn’t care what happens to the riders or Duron Carter.

    • Huh…the things that keep people awake at night. Crazy

  37. Love these people who just thumb their nose at authority and think they can do whatever the F*** they want to do. I presently live in LMD BC and this place is just full of these types of morons. Sad…society is slowly but surely slipping into the abyss.

  38. I love this guy as a player and person and never missed a Riders game last year on TSN as he’s exciting and electric to watch. He’s also a decent caring, human being based on story after story from fans who’ve interacted with him.

I’m no pot smoker and I’m not judging here but Duron has to be a bit cooler about any public statements on the pot incidents in case these do go to trial. Judges read the news like other citizens and sentencing on conviction has elements of subjectivity in it.

Section 718: Criminal Code of Canada

    “Purpose and Principles of Sentencing

718 The fundamental purpose of sentencing is to protect society and to contribute, along with crime prevention initiatives, to respect for the law and the maintenance of a just, peaceful and safe society by imposing just sanctions that have one or more of the following objectives:

    (a) to denounce unlawful conduct and the harm done to victims or to the community that is caused by unlawful conduct;

    (b) to deter the offender and other persons from committing offences;

    (c) to separate offenders from society, where necessary;

    (d) to assist in rehabilitating offenders;

    (e) to provide reparations for harm done to victims or to the community; and

    (f) to promote a sense of responsibility in offenders, and acknowledgment of the harm done to victims or to the community.”

Having said this, I’m pretty sure the Carter lawyers are running out the clock on the understanding that the federal gov’t has to contend with a couple of realities once the laws on pot are more liberalized:

Reality 1: How can you proceed to trial on matters that are no longer illegal given that there are more defendants awaiting trial in Canada today than in all the prisons we have – both provincial and federal.

Reality 2: How can you continue to retain criminal records for those convicted and sentenced in the past for pot law breaking when their specific crime is no longer illegal?

Not all pot crimes from the past or on the dockets now for trial will be eliminated of course but it looks like Duron’s are of the kind that will be gone when it’s legalized.
