Riders sign draft picks, add some Saskatchewan flavour

The Saskatchewan Roughriders made a bevvy of roster moves on Wednesday, including the addition of a couple of territorial junior players.

The Riders have also signed three of their draft picks: linebacker Micah Teitz (No. 14 overall), defensive lineman Mathieu Breton (No. 36) and defensive lineman Tresor Bauma-Mafuta (No. 45.) The team’s first-round pick, offensive lineman Dakoda Shepley, has been signed by the New York Jets and won’t be at Saskatchewan’s training camp.

The team has also added Canadian running back Bryce Vieira, presumably to provide some depth behind key free agent signing Jerome Messam.

The juniors are from the Saskatoon Hilltops, defensive back Colton Holmes and linebacker Cody Peters. Draft picks and junior players are “non-counters” and don’t apply to the 75-man roster limit.

The team also announced that University of Saskatchewan quarterback Mason Nyhus will be at camp as part of the CFL’s Canadian QB internship program.

When you only have 4 draft picks to sign, 3 should be easy.
FYI- Calgary had all 9 of theirs signed a week ago.

    • Nobody cares.

      • BC Dave // May 16, 2018 at 8:43 pm //

Yeah, who cares? That story is about the Riders. You just slipped below IQ 51 again. Maybe being the biggest as*-whole is your goal here?

      • I agree nobody cares about draft picks being signed.
None will be starters, it’s all about filling the ratio for backups and special teams.
An O-lineman may get a start in a couple of years.
But the draft is a huge disappointment

The stamps signed all their draft picks and not one mention of it on 3down because unlike the riders the stamps are not newsworthy .

      • thethinman // May 16, 2018 at 10:06 pm //

Not signing your top draft pick & only 3 of the other 4 is newsworthy? Couldn’t sign your late rounder either? What does that say about the Riders when their last pick won’t sign? That’s laughable.

good for them you big dumb looser no one cares what you say

  2. Mr Red. // May 16, 2018 at 6:13 pm //

There is an incident unfolding at a Regina Holiday Inn Express, an unnamed portly gentleman refuses to leave the waffle bar area after staff cut him off. More details coming.

    • Ridersrule // May 16, 2018 at 6:20 pm //

Wow red you should have told us you were coming now we have read about in the news. Were you unhappy with your waffles and raised a ruckus?

    • True green // May 16, 2018 at 9:05 pm //

Well we all know you couldn’t be having breakfast at Denny’s, so I’ll credit you for this information.

  3. You guys would look a lot smarter if you didn’t take the bait every time Red posts. They are obvious troll jobs. Ignore it and post something intelligent instead of crawling around in the gutter with him.

    • BC Dave // May 16, 2018 at 6:41 pm //

I tried posting that in every thread months ago and no one bothered, but you ARE right. Don’t feed him and he might go away. Same with his friend IQ51.

      • Good comments, buddy (LOL). But I believe you are wrong. Last I heard, the IQ monitor dropped a couple notches likely due to the continuous droppings in the stall.

  4. Nice to see the Riders giving some local Juniors a chance.

  5. Just saying // May 16, 2018 at 7:30 pm //

Hahaha! Just because the signings are announced today doesn’t mean they weren’t signed three 18 days ago also Huffhider

  6. So we are just supposed to eat Red’s ketchup chips? No thanks. I will go to battle with my brethren any day to remind Red he is a loser. He probably jacks off to this stuff is the strange part. “Oh chris, oh chris, oh duron, oh duron”. And then he cries himself to sleep wondering why he’s divorced and his daughters don’t talk to him.

    • BC Dave // May 16, 2018 at 8:47 pm //

He’s been told a million times. He doesn’t get it.
If you honestly believe that is what he does, why provide him the material??

    • Mr Red. // May 16, 2018 at 8:53 pm //

      wow… and I’m the troll.
Have I ever said such terrible things to any other commentator on here?

  7. True green // May 16, 2018 at 9:07 pm //

Glad to see some saskatoon talent getting signed with the Riders!

Cash…You belong in a dumpster in Somolia with your cousins the pirates.
You are sick and you will be reported and deported.

  9. Any day any time White Horse. I’m surprised your hick education even knows where Somalia is, is that where your last girlfriend is from? Nice buddy. Good on you, diversity is your strength. Name a place and time. I’ll be there, but do you have the balls? Probably not. Go rattle your buddy Red’s cage, he scares more easy and so do you apparently little man.

When is the supplemental draft and how many players are there

    • BC Dave // May 16, 2018 at 10:08 pm //

I might be corrected Rick, but I believe that it is for players who have had issues with paperwork, or just in general, proving that they qualify as a Canadian. Rather than make them wait a year, a Supplemental draft is held. You’d thing people would get on this sooner to make sure they are draft eligible so I may not be right, or maybe partially right. Not even sure there was such a thing 10 year ago.

  11. Bombs Away! // May 16, 2018 at 10:08 pm //

Blow me down. 14th, 36th and 45th overall signing makes the news. And in Montreal Franklin broke a nail and nothing…

  12. Edward Leslie // May 17, 2018 at 12:43 am //

    BC Dave:
Yes, the Supplemental draft has been held for at least 20 years.
The first player that I remember being drafted like this was Kicker Noel Prefontaine, who had a long career in the CFL with Toronto and Edmonton. He was picked in the late 90s.
Pre was born in California and went to high school and college there, but his dad was from Quebec and he lived with his grandmother in Quebec for several years during his childhood.
Two other early Supplemental draft players were brothers Rial and Teyo Johnson, who were born in B.C., but their family moved to Washington state when they were in grade school.

I think that players are eligible to apply to be chosen right up to the start if the season, which makes it look kind of dodgy in my opinion.

    Note to moderator:

A few comments below my most recent message that is “Awaiting moderation” is a comment by someone called Cash. He says that one of the posters (Red) is “jacking off”. He also says other awful and disgusting things about him.
A few posts later, ge is threatening him too.
However I DON’T see “Comment awaiting moderation” for that!

Meanwhile, I comment on a supplemental draft, but its censored. A subsequent message asking why it was censored… is also censored.

Why don’t you guys just admit you messed up and apologize. And why don’t you take action against a cretin, like Cash??

You know my email address. Send me a message explaining your site’s bizarre standards and love of censorship. I’d really like to hear from you.

  15. Edward Leslie // May 17, 2018 at 12:57 am //

Tinhead: At least Red is a CFL fan. Are you?
There is no place for your disgusting comments. There is no place for the disgusting comments and threats from Cash either.
People like you two are really ruining this site.
If the moderators of 3downnation can’t see that, they must not be paying attention.

  16. Northern Bomber // May 17, 2018 at 1:04 am //

I’m not sure what or why a post on the supplemental draft was reported, but I do agree that some of these people need to be permanently blocked from posting on this site. Racist banter, threats and sexually explicit filled jibberish should not be tolerated on any respected site. Please remove these posters moderators so that legitimate CFL discussions (or at least tasteful good natured ribbing) can be enjoyed by all segments of our population.

  17. Looks like the Riders are getting their ducks in order. Draft picks are a crap shoot now a days. If 1 or 2 make a solid contribution for the entire 18 game season any team should be thrilled with that result.

  18. MR Green // May 17, 2018 at 4:07 am //

We do have two picks coming to camp who returned to school from last years draft in Mitchell Picton an Alexandre Chevrier. We already have Brandyn Bartlett, LB, returning for his second season who only cost us a 5th rounder this season from the supplemental draft. We will see who steps up and makes some noise. We have a ton of Canadians in this camp. In a very weak draft year for talent, Riders did well.

Sounds like the Riders will be practicing in Humboldt on June 3rd. The first of many things they will be doing to honour and respect the town and the team. Good work Reynolds, Jones, et al.

  21. Edward Leslie // May 17, 2018 at 8:35 pm //

I doubt Chris Jones had anything to do with it.
If you did a brainscan of Chris Jones, it would just show a football. He’s 100% football 24/7. Not that this is a bad thing!
