Canadian QB Michael O’Connor to attend Argos training camp

Canadian quarterback Michael O’Connor will go to Toronto Argonauts training camp as part of the CFL’s internship program.

“Being able to work with Coach [Marc] Trestman, Anthony Calvillo, who is the quarterback coach there and Ricky Ray, if you look at those three and what they’ve done individually it’s amazing. Put the three together and it’s an opportunity to learn from some of the best who have done it,” O’Connor said.

Last season O’Connor threw for 2,308 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions with a 67.5 completion percentage in eight regular season games last year for the University of British Columbia. The Thunderbirds lost in the Hardy Cup on a 59-yard last-second field goal after O’Connor led his team down and passed for the go-ahead touchdown with 16 seconds on the clock. O’Connor had five touchdowns and 357 yards in the defeat.

Scouts on both sides of the border are intrigued by O’Connor’s skills.

7 Comments on Canadian QB Michael O’Connor to attend Argos training camp

  1. If O’Connor has a lights out year in 2018 he should get solid offers or be drafted in 2019 from both sides of the border. Going to Argo camp will give him a jump start on a possible CFL career and give the Argos more insite on what makes him tick per say.

  2. This will benefit O’Connor, and perhaps give Toronto an advantage in recruiting him in the future. A good CFL programme.

  3. O’Connor and Picton at the Argos camp.
That makes 7 QBs in camp.

  4. So much for all the complainers that say that Canadian QBs never get a chance. There are FIVE Canadian QBs going to camp this year, it’s their chance to show if they have it.
Now stop with the nonsense about Canadian QBs should be given a chance.
If they have the talent then they will be signed if they don’t they are cut like other players.

    • Wow, that fits your anti-Canadian really well, quite well crafted. They can’t win no matter how you craft it. But despite all that MLS still sucks.

The key to any player development especially QB’s is superior coaching !The Argos have it all there and these CDN QBs will be the better for it. Well done Argos !

Every team has at least one Canadian quarterback going to training camp for the CFL’s internship program. Mark Cohon started the plan.
What fans might not undetstand is that the participants don’t actually work out with the regulars in camp. It’s just a tutorial guidance type thing that goes just a few days. But it does get a foot in the door.
