Lions sign former Redblacks DB Winston Rose

The Lions signed former Redblacks defensive back Winston Rose Monday.

He was released by Ottawa last week.

Rose played in four games with the Redblacks last season making 21 tackles. He spent time in 2016 on the Argos practice roster. The 24-year-old went unselected in the 2016 NFL draft and signed as a free agent contract with the Rams and saw action in the preseason that year with the Colts.

Any Redblacks fans have any info on this guy? 21 tackles in 4 games seems pretty impressive. Any reason why he only played 4 games? Was he just a depth player for you guys or joined the team late?

      W. Rose joined the Redblacks last year in late July and spent two months on the PR before seeing game action. I thought he played fairly well given his lack of CFL experience, but I think the team’s defensive backfield is overloaded with guys of his same skill set and new D-coordinator Thorpe is looking for some more jam like the newly acquired Rico Murray, Lou Purifoy & Kyries Hebert.

Yes, I would love to know too. We have a hole(s) in our secondary and at one outside Linebacker spot. We signed 4 DBs today, one of which was Rose. What can you Ottawa folks tell us about him.
    Thanks.

  3. He seemed fairly solid to me, but in very limited action. He played only 4 games but made 21 tackles. I was surprised to see him let go since our secondary was nothing to write home about last season. Maybe he doesn’t fit with Noel Thorpe’s defensive plans.

Lions should have signed Noel Thorpe to rebuild their Defense…
