Redblacks release QB Lindley and DB Rose

American quarterback Ryan Lindley was among three players released Wednesday by the Ottawa Redblacks.

Also let go were linebacker Lamar Louis and defensive back Winston Rose, also both Americans.

Lindley, 28, completed 40-of-81 passes for 391 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions last season, his first with Ottawa. Lindley started two games and also served as the team’s short-yardage quarterback, rushing 47 times for 74 yards and five TDs.

Lindley played four seasons in the NFL with Arizona and Indianapolis after being drafted in the sixth round by the Cardinals in 2012.

Ottawa has now released both of Trevor Harris’s veteran backups: Drew Tate and Ryan Lindley. Witb just rookie Danny Collins and barely played Winnipeg 3rd stringer, Dominique Davis now remaining as backup choices, Ottawa needs to sign more QBs before training camp.
One possible choice is right in their own backyard.
Derek Wendel played witb the University of Ottawa Gee Gees for five years. He set U Sports records for most passes, pass completions two years in a row in 2015 and 2016. Ironically, he followed Redblacks star RECEIVER Brad Sinopoli as starting quarterback by just a few years.I’d like to see Marcel Desjardins give a Canadian a chance at the quarterback position.

That was a smart move, Lindley had no sucsess this year, Rose wasnt a starter… It frees up room for a deal with LB Serderius Bryant.

  3. Good move. I was never a fan of the short yardage Lindley . I do t see why Harris can’t go for short yardage. You don’t see Mike Reilly being replaced.
