Ticats draft pick, Canadian DE Brent Urban signs with Ravens to avoid free agency

The Baltimore Ravens have signed Canadian defensive end Brent Urban to a one-year contract, less than two weeks before he was slated to become an unrestricted free agent.

Urban was selected in the second round, 15th overall by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 2013 CFL draft.

Urban’s four years with Baltimore have been marked by injuries. He’s played in just 25 games and was healthy for an entire season only in 2016.

After being selected out of Virginia in the fourth round of the 2014 draft, Urban spent his rookie season on injured reserve after hurting his knee in training camp.

Urban played in only six games in 2015 because of a biceps injury. After appearing in 16 games in 2016, he made his first three NFL starts in 2017 before a foot injury ended his season in September.

The Mississauga, ON native has 25 tackles, three sacks and has blocked two field goals over his career.

Most readers probably have no clue who this dude is. Really, is this newsworthy.

    • Some people actually DO follow the draft choices made by their teams (and others!!!) so I suspect many Ticats fans at least know the name. Urban seems to be making a name for himself in spite of injuries so I’ll be surprised if he ever dons black and gold but good for him!

To you nothing is newsworthy. Heres an idea dont read you have that ability.

You assume people are as uniformed and disinterested as you…you should have been a Televangelist

    • Canadians in the NFL who are serious candidates for coming to the CFL are of interest, no matter which team you cheer for.

    • Any Canadian that makes it in the major league is newsworthy. He is a Canadian that has earned his place on a professional football team without the help of a Canadian ratio

  2. Yes it is.

A torn ACL, a torn bicep, and a Lisfranc foot injury with a one year recovery time suggests that Urban’s luck has got to change . I hate the Ravens but wish nothing but the best for Brent Urban .
