Lirim Hajrullahu signs with Ticats

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have agreed to terms with Canadian kicker Lirim Hajrullahu on a one-year deal through the 2018 season worth around $145,000.

The 27-year-old was 47-of-58 field goals (81 per cent) with 44-yard punting average in 2017.

The Canuck kicked the Grey Cup-winning field goal to clinch the Argos 27-24 victory. He’s the only Canadian that handles all the kicking duties in the league, fourth all-time in field goal conversion rate and consistent punter.

This is an amazing signing, great job by the front office.

  2. Solid signing but I’m gonna miss Sergio Castillo.

    • Castillo’s injury last season would keep him out for at least the first half of 2018 – if not longer. They needed to nab a kicker or continue with Kenny Allen who did a serviceable job late last season. Hajrullahu is a player I hoped the Ticats would add a couple of years ago – or maybe even when he wasn’t drafted. He’s from St Catharines so mostly a local guy!

  3. First addition to a non playoff team. Hope there is more to come

    • *To a team that finished 6-4 with an OT loss to the Argos and a last second PI call to the Stamps – make that an 8-2 team with all the momentum heading into the 2018 season

      • Might have been 5-5 if the Argos kicker could have made an easy last-second field goal in the Labour Day game, which would have sent the game into OT.

  4. So what happened to Castillo and Allen ?

Castillo ACL injury in October. Figure 1 year rehab for this. Hajrullahu the best available FA kicker on the market and a National. Will be musical chairs for the rest with a landing spot available for all.

  5. Could use a wil

Sergio did everything the team could ask of him and did it well. I think he’s looking at more healing time.

  7. Wish he could have stayed here in TO.

  8. Oskie Wee WEE!

  9. Very good signing-Using the ratio mix wisely. Having a dual kicker FG/P and a bonus being a National. It’s like a 2 for 1 deal really. All the best to Sergio, he was very consistent, but had that freak ACL injury. Can’t undertake why Argos would want to lose Harrullahu, but it’s Ti-Cats bonus. Kent Austin sure signing a lot today. Amazing the cso was freed up, unloading Collaras, Gable, Chick, and Emanuel Davis. And ‘Re-signing some vets from last year, notably Banks, Masoli, Tasker, Laurent, and Larry Dean. And now a kicker as a National.

  10. Not sure about this signing – he had a good rookie year, a bad sophomore year and then a good 3rd year – based on the trend, he is due for a lousy year.

  11. Were the Boatmen sleeping on this one? Was it a money issue? Hard to believe he would leave for Tabbies.

    • I listened to his interview and he mentioned that he does a lot of practising in Hamilton (from nearby St Catharines) and also mentioned the quality of the facility and being able to stay in one place to practice and work every day instead of being bused around like they do in TO. My guess is that it was non-monetary items that influenced his decision more than the $$$.
