The Alouettes have released international defensive back Jonathon Mincy in order to allow him to pursue NFL opportunities.
The 25-year-old has five NFL workouts lined up already and more requested. He was scheduled to become a CFL free agent in February.
Mincy played boundary corner for Montreal in 2017 where many of the best wide outs in the CFL line up each week. He was targeted 6.2 times per game in 2017 and he allowed a 64 per cent completion rate and 42.3 yards per game, leading the league in those categories (statistics via Onside CFL Fantasy host Dave Dawson).
The 25-year-old has played 32 games for the Alouettes in two seasons, making 108 tackles, knocking down 13 passes, three interceptions and forcing three fumbles. After the 2016 campaign, Mincy was named Montreal’s Most Outstanding Rookie and he was named an East Division all-star in 2017.
