QB Jeremiah Masoli taking first team reps at Ticats practice

It looks like it will be Jeremiah Masoli at quarterback for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats when they take on the Montreal Alouettes this Sunday.

Masoli is taking first team reps on Wednesday in the team’s first practice since they were eliminated from playoff contention. He has started the last seven games, leading the team to a 4-3 record. Masoli has completed 60.7 per cent of his passes with eight touchdowns and five interceptions with throwing for 300 yards in three games.

But Masoli is set to become a free agent next season leading to speculation that the team might start Zach Collaros the final three weeks of the season. Collaros started the first eight games of the season – all losses – and has lost 12 straight going back to 2016.

But Collaros is under contract with the Ticats for next season, the final year of a deal that pays him in excess of $500,000 a year. He had reportedly been the subject of trade discussions earlier this season.

In other practice news, national offensive lineman Mike Filer and American receiver Jalen Saunders sat out on Wednesday. The team added international running back Rajion Neal and offensive lineman Casey Blaser to the practice roster while releasing offensive lineman John Kling.

Meanwhile in Montreal, the Alouettes will go with veteran Darian Durant.
