Riders’ Duron Carter to start at defensive back against Stampeders

After a tumultuous couple days in Riderville, Duron Carter might end up playing on a different side of the ball Friday against Calgary.

Carter, who was involved in a fight Monday, lined up as a defensive back on Wednesday.

Carter has seen some game action in the secondary this season.

UPDATE: Rod Pedersen reports Carter will be starting at corner Friday.

UPDATE 2: Arash Madani says there may be another reason for the decision to start Carter in the defensive backfield.

66 Comments on Riders’ Duron Carter to start at defensive back against Stampeders

  1. There are many players in this league. Clearly DC cannot be the only one CFL fans are interested in. Move along, leave the guy alone.

So just like all season??? Where’s the story here?

    • riderontheisland // October 18, 2017 at 3:56 pm //

go to the other post about BLM warning DC. Now that sounds like a fun war of words.

so many salty rider fans flood 3dn it’s ridiculous. Same posters complaining about the same things.
For a fan base who claims to hate 3dn, you sure do come here often

    • You nailed it Bud 🙂
I guess when your own media only presents the happy shiny stories and whatever that dufus Pedersen spews you end up with super thin skin.

    • Salty only because of what we read and see. 12 stories on an event that happens all the time to all teams. Hockey training camps have scraps. NFL teams have scraps. Crap when I played minor hockey, some of my teammates didn’t like each other and scraps happened. But because it’s the Riders, and Carter, we are now on story 12. It’s ok to be a closet Rider fan, we know you are.

      • This isn’t about the scrap though. Only the third tweet makes reference to punishment. So why are you getting all wound up again?

        • Good job trying to stir the pot CC. More useless ramblings on your end it seems.

          • As opposed to this insightful commentary?

Again, I only speak fact. Facts you don’t like, granted, but facts nonetheless.

          • Facts… like you mean this 12th story about a scrap? Can you please present me these concrete facts? Oh wait! You don’t have any.. that’s right! Just speculation.

          • It ISN’T about the scrap though.

Are you sure you’re on the right story? There are so many, when Carter starts up trouble, that you could be excused for losing your place. This one is about Carter playing DB. Wild, eh?

          • So you believe everything you read CC?
Well since that’s the case.. the world is flat. There are aliens on the moon, and the sky does fall. I know! I just blew your mind eh

          • I hear Gainer got into it with one of the cheerleaders – News At 11

          • Well, you’ve gone from merely being in denial to now being completely irrational.

The story is about Carter playing DB. And you ask…If I believe everything I read? How does that even make sense?

Of course not. I didn’t believe anything Carter was quoted as saying recently, for instance. Just because you worship the ground he walks on, don’t assume that everyone else is that gullible. I thought by now at least THAT much would have been clear to you. But i see this could take a while. Hopefully 3DN drags this out a bit longer.

        • Welcome back donk a donk

    • 3DN can’t win here.

“Stop talking about the fight! It’s a non-story”

Duron Carter plays DB at practice.

“Why are you even bringing this up?? Stop talking about Carter!”.

I have an idea. Let’s do away with Saskatchewan coverage altogether. Their fans will be pleased that Dunk is not being a big meanie to them and we won’t have to listen to their cries of hatred and conspiracy. They can hang around at Pedersen’s blog and jut be told how awesome everything is, all day. Everybody wins! 😀

      • Spoken like a true Stumps fan. All three of you.

      • Hey CC, maybe you guys should worry about your own team, such as you know trying to sellout your stadium… less than 27,000 is pretty weak bro.

        • Ottawa? It’s sold out a bunch of times…

You guys are never happy. I think that other poster was right. You’re so used to your local media only ever glorifying Saskatchewan that you get out in the real word and it’s a shock. Kind of like the Amish riding the subway for the first time.

          • Someday you guys will stand with the big boys.
God I hope you guys don’t get any losing seasons. Those eastern teams a prone to leaving when that happens.

          • Losing seasons…Like last year?
            And this year?
            And 2014?

Do you even watch this league? Or do you just watch highlight clips of Duron Carter all day, wishing you could hang out?

    • riderontheisland // October 18, 2017 at 4:00 pm //

We are doing the same as you moron, following stories. You must be reading as much as we are if you see it all of the time. We are football fans that care (and lots of us!) which is why we want to know what’s going on. Do we get fed up when the stories are rubbish….yes we do and Rider stories get more attention than any others so when the writers need to drum something up, where do you think they go. If you had any smarts the math would add up and answer your own question.

      • Prove me wrong // October 18, 2017 at 4:06 pm //

Typical Gangrean fan, strike out with personal insults. Right out of Trumps book of plays. But I guess that is common for a one show province.

      • There’s a story about Masoli taking first-team reps for Hamilton. That’s even LESS newsworthy since he’s been doing that for weeks.

So I’m not sure what cause there is to get over this one. It’s not exactly going to set the world on fire, but someone might find it interesting that Carter is playing on defence. maybe not everyone realizes he’s done that so far this season. I admit I didn’t know.

  4. Tumultuous couple days in Riderville? I’m not sure about that, but it’s certainly been a tumultuous couple of days on 3DownNation. Lyles struggled in the last game and Carter got some reps on the corner. Especially with Roosevelt out I’m sure Cater will be a primary target on offence, but he may get some reps at CB as well. He’s an elite athlete who is very physical and doesn’t mind the contact that comes with playing DB. He’s a very good team player who’s willing to help out on the other side of the ball if he’s asked to. I can easily understand why so many fans of other teams are so over the top jealous of him.

  5. The angst in Rider Town over what is written here is funny to read. Carter has always had problems. That’s why he isn’t in the NFL.

  6. As a Riders fan bring it on everyone. The only fanbases in the league are Riders, Eskies, Bombers. Soooooo, yeah, no one is getting worked up about a few of you outliers and your comments.

  7. Scottsask // October 18, 2017 at 3:20 pm //

Don’t forget about Ticat fans. I have nothing but respect for them as well.

  8. Way it is // October 18, 2017 at 3:37 pm //

Yes jealous – I am sure every team would like to have a cancer like Carter in their lineup especially just before the playoffs. This is such a non issue, dozens of Saskatchewan fans need to comment on it. What a joke!!!! I hope he is in Saskatchewan for awhile – you deserve each other!

    • Way it is… I hope he’s here for a long time too. Thanks for your encouraging words.
Hmm are you new here? I’ve never heard you comment before, are you a relative to donkey? The way you talk it sure seems so.

  9. idiotwind // October 18, 2017 at 3:55 pm //

What’s the story here? You guys don’t look too deep into anything do you? Looking through glass bricks is just fine. Carter at DB exposes your depth which is minus zero with Lyles back there. Carter at DB keeps him away from the offence thus no run-ins with the coaches. Carter at DB also means he doesn’t get to rack up yards after he chortled about his production last game. It also defuses a bit of a messy situation in that not suspending him upsets the coach who felt disrespected, which was noted by some observers, and suspending him sends the message the problems went beyond a simple scrap. Gotta keep the warring factions happy. Of course, reading between the lines isn’t a strong suit from the Gopher Town crowd.

    • It also gets people talking about this instead of…that other thing from the other night that they don’t want us talking about.

  10. Really have a tough time understanding what all the fuss is about with Duron Carter? 3downnation continues to try and cover every angle possible after this incident. I guess the next story will be potential landing sites for “our” star receiver. I don’t think it will be that easy, though, 3down. Furthermore, if 3downnation wants to cover “another” Rider story, Cam Marshall is coming back. And it looks as if he will be sharing the load with Trent Richardson. Hey 3down, that’s a feel-good story (for a change). Couldn’t have come at a better time since the green and white face the Stamps. Seems like we miss all these other stories regarding players on the field, instead, focusing on the “politics” of football. As well, Derek Dennis will be missing the game with Dan Clark now in. Just a word of advice, 3down, maybe check out Riderville. Some really good stuff on there.

    • Thank you greenrider89
If they actually read the REAL stories, they might hold their tongues.

      • greenrider89 // October 18, 2017 at 4:43 pm //

Yer welcome, green and white buddy. I guess (yawn), I get tired of these spoofs. As a youngster, my mother used to read me more interesting stories until I went to sleep. But I do admit (yawn, yawn), Justin has some pretty funny stories.

        • Lol these stories are beyond tiring, There is absolutely nothing else going on in the league I guess. Maybe they can talk about the 3 seagulls that attacked Swayze Waters in Edmonton while he was punting(I made this up).

          • Billinburlington // October 18, 2017 at 7:56 pm //

I think these stories are great. As a Ticat fan I’m amused by the back and forth between readers as well as the conniption first people are getting themselves into over this story. A small piece of me says this is Karma for sask chocking against Ottawa and losing in the last seconds- sending my Team out of playoff contention. Another piece of me hopes this riles up Sask and they stomp all over the stumps this week…. I’d like to see that!

          • And yet, here you are…Contributing nothing, mind you, but here you are nonetheless.

          • greenrider89 // October 19, 2017 at 1:03 am //

By the way, you better be careful Arash doesn’t hear about the three gulls. I bet there’s some print on this one already. By the way, you don’t happen to know the markings of those birds? I’m sure that might be a follow-up question. Oh my, how times have changed!!!

  11. idiotwind // October 18, 2017 at 4:09 pm //

The Apollo space mission shut down a long time ago. Where on Earth would they send him? Sorry, I got nothing greenrider.

  12. idiotwind // October 18, 2017 at 4:11 pm //

Oops, I forgot. Carter is already among the little green men.

  13. This whole DC practice overblown dust up has been beaten like a dead horse. Of a larger concern to me is why in the hell does 1000 yard receiver like DC have to play corner after having the best game of his career (in yardage)?? I think Bouka is a safety, but surely he or someone else on the team could play corner. If not, where is the great recruiting supposedly being done by Murphy and Jones et al? With Roosevelt out, it makes no sense to have your most productive receiver playing defence. Wow…just wow.

    • Could be a way to mess with the Calgary spies.. See I can make fake news too, maybe I can work with 3down.
Honestly he probably won’t be playing CB the whole game. Ellie Bouka was also taking first team reps. I have a feeling he will be the one playing most of the game. They might be just getting him some reps just in case Bouka doesn’t do well or gets injured during that time frame.

      • Yeah, Bouka is a great athlete but this will be his first game starting in a loooong time. It would certainly be wise to have a backup ready to go. For what it’s worth CFL.ca is reporting that Carter will play both receiver and CB on Friday. I wonder when the last time a player started both on offence and defence in a CFL game was?

        • Exactly, who knows if the kid is CFL ready yet or not. Its not a bad idea to get another guy reps just in case.

  14. Way it is // October 18, 2017 at 4:28 pm //

Who is donkey- sounds like he knows what he is talking about!!

  15. You answered your own question. To be fair, this is the 2nd year in the rebuild. But despite what a lot of Rider fans think, you have depth issues. Now you got a few injuries it’s beginning to show up. That’s something Jones has to address this off season. It’s a bad time of year for this to occur so while other teams are now getting players back like the Stamps & Esks, the Riders & Bombers are getting hit at the worst possible time. For everyone who got carried away with Rider “depth”, well now you’re getting a small taste of it. I feel your pain

    • greenrider89 // October 18, 2017 at 4:47 pm //

Hey boneyard, we fought the injury bug in 2014, 2015 and even 2016, so we do have a taste of what it’s like in past years. We might not have the depth as perhaps Calgary, and maybe Edmonton, but we do know about injury bugs and that’s just part of football. We’ll get through it and we’ll be fine.

  16. RJ Johnson Jr // October 18, 2017 at 4:42 pm //

Hey, can somebody send this story to Justin Dunk, he’s a bit behind on all this

  17. Different teams, different circumstances. Every team has crucial injuries. Much has been written about Durant in 2014 & that’s fine. Did it have something to do with the Rider season? Maybe. What often isn’t noted about that year is that the 8-2 record under Durant included 8 wins vs teams that all finished .500 or less & 2 losses vs. those same teams. The 2 best teams that year by a long shot were Calgary & Edmonton whom the Riders hadn’t played yet. In 2015 Eskimos lost Reilly for 8 games, like Durant, yet still won without him. I am only saying that you are seeing this year now what other teams have experienced earlier & how you deal with it will be interesting to see. Because that will give you a good idea about depth, just like the Eskimos & Stampeders learned earlier this year. Not criticizing the Riders. I do feel for you. I just don’t see Duron as a “depth” player at DB.

    • greenrider89 // October 19, 2017 at 1:12 am //

Does that mean your feeling sorry for the Roughriders? Or just what are you getting at? And that Edmonton won without Reilly, is Reilly that great a quarterback then if the Eskimos could win without him? Your summarization of injuries, Durant, etc. are rather interesting.

  18. if carter plays that means lyle wont dress so they may have to take someone off the practice rooster

  19. Paul Bomber // October 18, 2017 at 5:31 pm //

I wonder if Chris Jones is just friggin’ with everyone?
(if he is… I hate him a little less… that would be hilarious!)

  20. And with update #2 3DN stoops to a new low. How utterly ridiculous. Any more of this and I will have to conclude that you’re willfully posting lies. Also, Ryan Pollack has confirmed that Dennis wasn’t even at practice on Monday, something that I’m sure can be confirmed by anyone who was there, and Grant was not asked to leave. Dennis is out with a back injury this week.

  21. These stories have changed countless times. Its just getting to the point of no one taking any of these guys serious anymore. When I first started with this site, I was impressed by the information… Nowadays…Not so much. This is worse than 9th grade girls spreading rumors.

    • This is true. Reputation is an important thing when you’re a journalist or when you’re running a site like this. And this week this site’s reputation is going downhill fast, and crashing along with it are Dunk’s, Edwards’ reputations. It may well be that Dunk has been played for a fool by somebody, but at some point you have to take responsibility for your own actions and choose not to be played for a fool. As the saying goes, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

“After a tumultuous couple days in Riderville”… LMFAO. More like, “After a tumultuous couple days of spinning this practice skirmish every imaginable way”.

    Mandini you weenie.
