Riders make series of roster moves

Saskatchewan has made a number of six-game injured list transactions.

Defensive back Mike Edem and defensive end A.C. Leonard come off while linebacker Otha Foster, linebacker Samuel Eguavoen and quarterback Marquise Williams, got put on.

Edem had been starting at safety and played 11 games making 15 tackles and forcing one fumble before he suffered a setback against Hamilton on September 15.

Leonard, who started 13 games making 22 tackles, four sacks and one forced fumble, was hurt in Ottawa Week 15.

Foster arrived in Regina mid-September after being released by the Baltimore Ravens. He was hurt early in the team’s Week 13 victory. Foster was the Riders Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2016. He started all 18 games for Saskatchewan last season after signing as a free agent, registering 71 defensive tackles, four tackles for loss, three quarterback sacks, one interception and one forced fumble.

Eguaveon has suited up in 13 games making 55 tackles and one sack. He suffered an injury against Toronto in Week 16.

  1. Eguavoen has been 6 gamed? That sucks, good thing we have Knox. Mays could end up being the new backup LB as well.

In other roster news, “I doodoo and then listen to Katy Perry” has been signed to the PR.

Good thing we have depth at LB, but I hope we see both return in the next week or two. I’m really anxious to see some size return up the middle because we are too small at DT right now to consistently stop the run.
Anyone know when James or Minter are returning. I heard last week that one of them was close.

    • I’ve heard that Minter is close, but I wasn’t all that impressed with him early in the year. James I was very impressed with but someone said they saw him still limping on the sidelines in practice. There’s a new guy in town, Charles Walker, who may be the next up.

Ya but nobody look impressive on the Dline the first few games. I agree James looked really good and I’m not sure what to expect from Walker. Just getting concerned that the league has shifted to heavy on the run and we are too small up the middle to hold our own.

  3. Williams the 4th string qb on the 6 game injured list how did he hurt himself carrying the clipboard? Seriously jones is up to his games again and with foster as well riders must be over the cap AGAIN

    • The Riders have been over the cap, so what? They were fined.
many of the teams in baseball, football, basketball are over their respective caps. In fact in basketball, most of the teams are over the cap and pay luxury tax. Who cares?

    • God forbid Jones and Co manage a roster eh Dan?

    • I haven’t heard anything about Williams’ injury but he does play in practice. With the expanded PR rosters we did bring in a new guy, so if Williams has something smallish we might have put him on the IR both to let him heal and to give the new guy some reps. As a 4th string QB he won’t be making very much anyway. Foster has a legitimate back injury and had to leave a game early a few weeks ago. It sounds like it’s acting up again. If he was healthy he’d be playing. When was the last time the Riders were over the cap? I think it was back in the Tillman era, and even then it was some trivial amount. It was nothing like the days when the Eskimos used to blow the cap by about 50%, but those were the days when there was no penalty for violating the cap, so I guess I can’t blame them. I do understand your envy of Jones, though.

    • All teams do it to stash players

Did MOB play last weekend? I didn’t hear his name or notice number 19 on the field. Which former à la wet [gotta luv dictation] will they start at safety? Hecht, Edem, MOB?

    • MOB did play, but I’m not sure he’s in game shape yet. Edam has been put on the IR so it’s going to be MOB, Hecht or Bouka

  5. Fill the hole with Knox. Goor to see AC is off 6 game

    Glen get moved… yet again…

It would be nice to see an extra DB on the roster so that Carter doesn’t have to come in at corner. He’s a good athlete, but I wouldn’t have him in there vs. a QB who could spin him around (like Ray did a bit). An emergency backup? Sure. But not the first back-up. As for those spouting off about “injured” players…all teams do it and all teams have done it since leather helmets were in vogue. We were at the Rider-Argo game. Smallish crowd…but the side with the cameras have a lot more people sitting there than the side the cameras face. They were very loud for their limited numbers.
