3 Down staff, Bombers have held a play off spot after the Edmonton victory week 15, they hold the crossover. What you should say is they can clinch the WSF, further a Bombers win in week 17 will secure a WSF, they hold the tie breaker over Saskatchewan & Edmonton and BC would be 8 points out with 3 games left.

Hey Blue, not the case because they could still finish in 5th in the west and out of the playoffs. They would have to lose out and BC win out, but the Lions would end up with the head to head tie. The Riders and Esks would each have to win 2 games and that is all possible, but very unlikely. So the article is correct that they still need points.

Hey island Please re read, I said AFTER WEEK 15 Bombers hold the crossover with 20 points, they hold the crossover over Ott 13 points, Ham 6 points & Mlt 6 points with 3,5 & 4 games (respectively) to be played. also I stated A BOMBERS WIN in WEEK 17(giving them 22 points) will secure a WSF, if each Bombers, Riders & Edmonton all win week 17 Winnipeg would have 6 points above Riders & Edmonton with 3 games to go, Winnipeg has won the tie factor over both Sask & Esks, BC then is no longer in the a factor for Winnipeg . please respond if I’m incorrect

It’s not entirely clear what you mean by holding the crossover spot; I see two possible interpretations. Unfortunately, they’re both incorrect.

If you mean Winnipeg is presently (i.e. “if the playoffs began today”) in the crossover position, that’s trivially wrong since they’re in second in the West, and it is fourth place that takes the crossover.

If you mean Winnipeg is guaranteed (i.e. has “clinched”) to finish no worse than the crossover position, that’s also wrong. Should Winnipeg lose out, they will finish 10-8. Should BC win out, they will also finish 10-8 and hold the tiebreaker over Winnipeg by virtue of winning in weeks 17 and 19. Edmonton can finish 11-7 if they win all their remaining games except losing to BC in week 18, and Saskatchewan can also finish 11-7 if they win all their remaining games except losing to Edmonton in week 20.

The final standings would be something like:
          1. Calgary 14-3-1 (29 points) gets a bye to the West Final
          2. Saskatchewan 11-7-0 (22 points) hosts the West Semifinal
          3. Edmonton 11-7-0 (22 points) is the road team in the West Semifinal
          4. BC 10-8-0 (20 points) is the road team in the East Semifinal
          5. Winnipeg 10-8 (20 points) misses the playoffs

Your statement about securing the West Semifinal with a win this week is also wrong. If Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, and Edmonton all win in week 17, the Bombers will have only a 4-point lead (22 to 18) over their two rivals with 3 games to play, not a 6-point lead.

Haven’t done the math on other teams.

  3. riderontheisland // October 10, 2017 at 3:01 pm //

Sorry that should have been 3 wins by the Riders and Esks.

How does that saying go? “Defense has nothing to do with championships”? What? “Defense Wins Championships” you say? uh-oh….
The O is not as good as the D is bad. Hate relying on turnovers, but we’ll need lots to make up for the worst D of any play-off bound teams. Thought they turned the corner against Edmonton, but that’s looking like an aberration.

Stamps to host the West final for sure but I believe the Esks will be the team to beat down the last 4 games. BC is out and riders will cross over. Edm beats Wpg in West Semi.

Does anyone know what caused a meltdown with Maas this past game because of some defensive miscue? He was barfing all over his headset again. Hope the CFL has a few backup headsets for the Eskimos hot headed coach. Do headsets count against the cap?

  7. Blue Rules // October 10, 2017 at 8:35 pm //

White – time count violation, Esk’s were near FG range 3rd and short, attempted to draw Al’s offside before calling a timeout, didn’t manage the clock well, ended up with a time count violation pushing them out of FG range hence choking the CRAP out of the microphone. Would love to be a fly on the wall for that conflab.

@ dagnabbit & Island, Your correct, I concede….two point for you.
