Stampeders sign national kicker David Deschamps

Calgary has signed Canadian kicker David Deschamps to the practice roster, per sources.

Deschamps was a starting defensive back while kicking and making 16-of-19 field goals during his time with the University of Montreal. In university playoffs, he went a perfect seven-for-seven. He went unselected in the 2016 CFL draft and attended the Eastern regional combine in March.

A Peredes needs a little bit of motivation

    • Nope, Paredes hurt his leg tackling Rainey on a 2nd half kick return on the weekend.
This is insurance for the upcoming game, nothing more, nothing less.

  2. OK even stamps fans must admit this is getting ridiculous

    • white stallion in red // September 20, 2017 at 2:01 pm //

      One player signing us ridiculous?

      • theonlydispassionateriderfan // September 21, 2017 at 1:10 pm //

Real teams build from depth. If Calgary were a real team, they would’ve had someone on the roster already. Take some of your own logic and eat it.

  3. You are a revolving door. You,are not a high calibre team

    • George Porge // September 20, 2017 at 3:58 pm //

LOL. You do remember what we did with the last National kicker that we signed, don’t you?

Hint – we got a pretty decent running back to replace a previously pretty decent running back.

      • I seem to remember us getting a pretty decent kicker that replaced a crappy one. Plus we drafted one the next year. We seem to be doing quite fine with national kickers.

        • George Porge // September 20, 2017 at 6:25 pm //

Agreed, actually. Given that we were essentially renting Messam from you for a month (he was a pending FA at the end of that season), I thought Sask got the better end of that deal.

    • CFLs Best since 1990 // September 21, 2017 at 1:16 am //

A revolving door? Not a high caliber team? Really? And let me guess… you’d like us to take you seriously?

With a few injuries the lack of depth and roster strategy are showing.

  5. Enough already // September 20, 2017 at 12:38 pm //

So what is the problem with bringing in a Canadian undrafted kicker? It will look like a good idea if Paredes were to get hurt.

  6. This is a true sign of lack of depth.. What is going on in Hufftown? Maybe the league should start looking into the amount of player going through that program right now. Including the salary cap.

  7. Peredes has a hamstring problem. Please don’t read too much into this signing.

  8. Enough already // September 20, 2017 at 3:14 pm //

Bringing in Deschamps is an excellent way to maintain depth. He went undrafted. No one owns his rights. If it works out, Calgary can perhaps give Paredes some rest if the hamstring problem persists down the stretch. If it doesn’t work, no one was lost in a trade. That is exactly how Calgary avoids the revolving door and doesn’t get involved in signing the high priced free agents. Yet is always in the discussion for first place in the west.

  9. What a revolving door in Calgary. The new commish needs to investigate Calgary’s front office.

  10. White Horse // September 20, 2017 at 5:01 pm //

These negative comments are from the very people who rant on about horsie being a troll!! Just exactly what ‘you trolls’ are doing. Get real.

    • George Porge // September 20, 2017 at 5:16 pm //

Closet Stampeders fans.. what can you say?

      Oh yea.. also remember 1-4*

(*number of times in the last five seasons that the Riders made it past the Semi Finals)

  11. white stallion in red // September 20, 2017 at 6:08 pm //

You guys are idiots…this is ONE kicker…not 2 LBs, 2 safeties, 2 kick returners and almost a rush end in the last week. Peredes has struggled at times.get real

    • You don’t get it…..these silly as* comments are exact quotes of yours donk a donk. It’s a good acquisition as we’re the ones made by the Riders. Difference here is you are obsessed by what we do, no matter what and have to take shots on articles that often aren’t even about the Riders,Jones,Saskatchewan or anything else.

      • CFLs Best since 1990 // September 21, 2017 at 1:37 am //

Good God, would you children get over it already, and instead try to ADD something to the quickly-diluted conversation? Not sure if you realize it or not – I think you do and you’re just acting stupid… could be wrong – but you and a few others spend virtually zero time sticking to the subject at hand. Frankly, it’s pathetic. Grow up, please.

  12. truenorthern // September 20, 2017 at 6:26 pm //

My three comments were simply word for word copies of horsies comments over the last couple of days. Nice to see everyone including horsie agrees they were ridiculous comments.

  13. So white stallion in red, what is wrong with the Riders signing the 5 players in question, over the last two weeks? If we are as bad as you say we are, would it nor make sense for us to sign players that improve our team then? If we have a lack of depth, as you say we do, it would make sense to sign these players even if just for backup depth, no?

Also, if we are as bad of a team as you say and we are 5-5/6-5 without these players, I am interested to see how we do with these players added to the roster.

    • white stallion in red // September 20, 2017 at 7:42 pm //

You could be 11-0 and Jones would still be doing it. That’s part of my point

      • Lancaster/Reed // September 20, 2017 at 8:30 pm //

Yes donkey, what coach in his right mind would ever want to try to improve his team, even if they are 11-0. Its just crazy that a coach would bring in players to push his starters, or replace them if the new player is better. What kind of horrible coach would ever try such antics.
Do you even think before you spout your nonsense?

        • white stallion in red // September 20, 2017 at 8:52 pm //

See Lancaster. You guys are so narrow viewed. If you are a good team and setting your sites on a championship why would you bring in 1/3 new starters on defence? Any team can add players but why would you? Why disrupte chemistry for the sake of talent? What’s the point..having the most talented players doesn’t win you championships.
Furthermore where is the pipeline to bring in young unknowns guys?! Wasn’t that what you hired Murphy for? When does it end?? Does Jones cut Foster and Knox this off season because he sees a sexy name in FA? Went does it end?? And what point do you reach stability!?…

          • Lancaster/Reed // September 20, 2017 at 9:00 pm //

Why disrupt chemistry ? Good question. Then why did calgary bring in kicker when you already have a good one. He is disrupting the chemistry of the stamps by doing this. Hufnagel must be a terrible gm.
Donkey, you are such a hypocrite.

          • George Porge // September 21, 2017 at 10:27 am //

“why did calgary bring in kicker when you already have a good one.”

Have you been watching the same games I have? Parades hasn’t exactly been lighting it up like he did a few years ago.

          • CFLs Best since 1990 // September 21, 2017 at 3:40 pm //

Parades is the best money kicker in the CFL, and has been for quite some time. He’s proven that. Despite some missed converts, his foot has won a lot of games on the last play, because he is absolutely clutch. Oh, and with a couple of record-breaking seasons on his resume, too.

I’m not concerned that he’s not “lighting it up.” He makes them when they count, and that’s what matters most.

        • white stallion in red // September 20, 2017 at 10:07 pm //

Oh God lololol I give up!!!! Are you really not getting it or do you just not want to admit the obvious??
Kicker is one player in a postion where there has been some struggles..Paredes may have an injury, Calgary is trying to improve the postion…your defense was supposedly the most most feared in the league going into labour day.so why make changes just for the sake of adding talent???..

          • Lancaster/Reed // September 20, 2017 at 10:23 pm //

I never said our defense was the most feared, nor did any rider fan on here as far as i can recall. We did say the defense is finally playing like a chris jones defense is supposed to. But there is always room for improvement. If Knox and Foster hadnt tried their luck in the nfl, they would have been with the riders all season, so what iswrong with bringing them back? If Eric Rodgers was healthy and available, would you not bring him back to the stamps? Damn right you would, and you would be crowing about what a great signing it was, making the stamps much stronger.
If Marc hadnt retired, he also would have been with the team all season, hes just getting here late. We also had Edem go down with an injury, so Marc can fill his spot pretty soon. 3 of our returners are injured Jones, Demski and Thigpen, so we sign two to try out? If finch and 2 replacements were injured, the stamps would be airmailing someone in pretty quick so that accounts for this weeks signings donkey breath. Dont let let door hit your a** on th way out..

        • white stallion in red // September 20, 2017 at 10:29 pm //

You move on when players that were yours move elsewhere. Some you might bring back..but good teams replace them…would Clary bring Eric Rodgers back? Maybe, maybe not I can tell you this..they wouldn’t get in a bidding war

  14. truenorthern // September 20, 2017 at 6:50 pm //

    5 types of Horsie comments:
    – Personal attack on Coach Jones
    – Personal attack on Rider Fans
    – Riders sign veteran player – bad
    – Riders sign rookie player – bad
    – Riders sign better players – bad

  15. Lancaster/Reed // September 20, 2017 at 8:45 pm //

Well donkey, it looks like they do indeed announce it when they the stamps sign nobodies. So how come all those other nobodies you say the stamps brought into town werent announced. Maybe because they were already in town? Calgary was stashing players and breaking the practice roster rules. .CFL NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THE STAMPS.

    • white stallion in red // September 20, 2017 at 10:24 pm //

You know what’s funny…how simple the world is to you.. its like you live in a cartoon……
Here’s the facts about what you are referring to….
No other team but sask has ever cheated numbers at practice BUT Chris Jones………………think about it. If you are a player and you just make the team after a grueling training camp. How are you going for to feel when you show up to practice and suddenly there are all these new players, as many as there were and camp? Your opportunities to show yourself are now less and you have to look over your shoulder at the guys who could replace you in an instant . You realize this is an illegal act by your employer. And being subjected to these undo conidtions. How do you feel about your employer? Loyalty?…what do you do??? YOU REPORT HIM TO THE UNION…thats why Jones was caught…it wasn’t Bo tweeting it! It was already being investigated. Bo just bought it to light and took the blame.
This would happen to to any GM and any team that attempted this…thats part of what unions are for!!! And why we know this doesn’t happen everywhere as you all say to dismiss these illegal acts by Jonrs

      • Lancaster/Reed // September 20, 2017 at 10:51 pm //

Jones took it to an extreme , but he learned it from hufnagel.
Tell me donkey, why do you care so much about what jones and the riders are doing? How did they wrong you? If its not hufnagels abysmal record vs the riders in the playoffs, what is it that makes you a big giant troll? It cant be rider fans arrogance, you are more arrogant than anyone by a country mile? Is it cause its fun to be a troll? Congrats. You are the king. Now try some maturity. After all if you are 44, isnt that a little old to be a troll for fun? Are you one of those middle age losers that still goes into bars looking to get into a fight? It sure seems like it. You occasionally have some insightful posts, but they get lost in your venom. Your obsession with the riders speaks of some deep psychological issues. Its one thing to comment on every rider article on this site, but you even go on riderville.. I rarely go on riderville, maybe 6-7 time a season, but im betting you are on there multiple times every day.
Deep down you know you have a problem. Admitting it is the first step to recovery.

      • Lancaster/Reed // September 20, 2017 at 10:53 pm //

And really donkey, are you so dense that you cant see when someone is trolling you? Omfl.

        • white stallion in red // September 20, 2017 at 10:57 pm //

Oh believe me I know you all troll ne..its pretty obvious.. other commentary even say so

          • Boy….when people fore the same crap back at you….you literally lose your mind. Deal with it donk a donk….this is really how ridiculous you sound constantly chirping about everything Riders.

          • Lol other commentary? are you talking about your 2 or 3 stumps/esk friends?

          • CFLs Best since 1990 // September 21, 2017 at 6:27 pm //

I think he means that you guys are so focused on him, his responses, and worse yet, his IMAGINED comments, that it is actually a small army trolling him BACK. This personal war frustrates those not wanting to take part in it, is all.

  16. white stallion in red // September 21, 2017 at 12:22 am //

Oh sorry what do you say..?? I was busy counting all the Stamps wins…it took awhile

    • Lancaster/Reed // September 21, 2017 at 7:46 am //

I bet it did. You needed to take a sock off to finish counting. 1 ……………………2……………………3…………………….
Dont forget to count your grey cup from 2016. Oh wait. Its only the redblacks that have bragging rights this year.

      • George Porge // September 21, 2017 at 10:30 am //

Now let’s count how many playoff games Rider fans got to watch their team play in the last few years….

..you shouldn’t even have to take off your mittens for that one.

        • Lancaster/Reed // September 21, 2017 at 2:53 pm //

7 of the last 10 riders made the playoffs. 3 less than the stamps in that time period. But riders played in 4 grey cups and won 2 . Exact same number as the stamps. Only difference is once in the playoffs , riders made it to the cup fame 4/7 and stamps 4/10.
          What exactly was your point?

      • CFLs Best since 1990 // September 21, 2017 at 6:31 pm //

Hey, even I have to admit that some (within reason)of the childish rhetoric is funny… I’m all for that part!

  17. Shhhhhhhhhh, thats enough…..have mom get some sleepy time tea in your Rider mug and tuck you in donk a donk.

  18. CFLs Best since 1990 // September 21, 2017 at 1:43 am //

I’m going to give this near-perfectly set-up 3 Down Nation social commentary and discussion opportunity a couple more chances. Maybe some will be happy about it, but if I see more of this same pre-pubescent garbage continuing… I’m outta here, despite liking everything else about it. You children should get your own website. Pleeeeaaaasssse!!

    • George Porge // September 21, 2017 at 10:31 am //

To be honest, this *is* the website for them to go on about this stuff. If you want more meaningful discussions, there’s a forum on Reddit where football people actually gather to talk CFL.

      • Isn’t it funny.. you guys never said a thing when horsie did all of the trolling, as soon as we start to fight back. Its getting “ridiculous”.. Really guys? You should have grown a pair before and stopped it at the source. But noooooo, you let him troll away and this is what the outcome is. You made the bed, sleep in it now.

PS 4 wins and 1 loss, just because I know if riles horsie and other trolls up.

        • CFLs Best since 1990 // September 21, 2017 at 1:53 pm //

Actually, I wasn’t around for the “beginning.” He clearly got under your skin, that much is plainly evident, and I can see how. I would assume most of us are over the age of 12, yet it always seems to digress into that kind of mentality. I am pretty sure it was Horsie who built and escalated that, judging by the small country of posters against him. But there are others here now who are willing to talk; maybe we can recapture some of the original intention. However, thanks for the Reddit info, I wasn’t aware. Think I’ll be looking into that, I appreciate it, cheers.

        • George Porge // September 21, 2017 at 3:08 pm //

“you guys never said a thing when horsie did all of the trolling, as soon as we start to fight back.”

Oh here we go again. Poor ol’ RobE complaining because we didn’t try hard enough to defend the Rider clan from big bad Horsie.

We were calling Horsie out for his shenanigans long before you hit the scene, son. You just seem to have selective hearing, or you’re just upset because, unlike you, we don’t go out of our way to troll him – we wait until he actually says something stupid (which is really only about 20% of his actual comments – but since you hate everything Stampeders you just don’t even notice that part).

I don’t think we’re the ones who need to “grow a pair” Rob. If you need our help to deal with a troll who happens to cheer for the same team as us, you got something going on that nobody in here can help you with.

          • Again you guys made the bed, sleep in it. What are you going to do with a kid acting up in class? Let him continue doing what he’s doing or send him to the principal’s office? Is this easy enough for you to understand?
It’s not even about me defending my team, its defending this forum. You getting sick of seeing all of this? Well you can thank your good friend..
Also since you are the “most experienced” 3downer apparently George, why don’t you fill me in then.. What was life like before the troll? Was it quiet? Was it peaceful? I personally wouldn’t know.. I got to enjoy all of this glory.

He’s a big boy, he can stand up for himself. So tell me why does this bother you so much? Let me Dr.Phil you here. 😀
If you are getting upset by us defending our organization, I suggest you take your own advice and read on.

Last thing Georgie… if you aren’t a part of the solution, you are part of the problem. 😉

          • CFLs Best since 1990 // September 21, 2017 at 6:20 pm //

Sorry for overstepping, but I’ve seen real intelligent comments from the both of you.

          • To be completely honest with you George.. I have absolutely nothing against you. I just have a problem with you calling everyone else out.. except a certain someone. Just because everyone knows he’s doing it.. does it make it right to exclude him the comments? It takes two to tango. In this case.. more like 10 or so to tango lol

  19. white stallion in red // September 21, 2017 at 12:35 pm //

I don’t troll. I started an opinion. A you guys just don’t like my opinion and insist me for it…I say nothing cruel, indecent or insulting to any commentators

    • Lmfao!!! Are you kidding me? You only call out whole Rider organization and fans. That’s not trolling at all.
I’ll admit very, very, very rarely you come up with some actual valid information. But for 98% of the time you are a hater and a troll.
And of course once we start the resurgence, you feel offended and attacked. Can’t handle the heat get out of the kitchen. You are one of the most insidious people. Much like a disease.

      • white stallion in red // September 21, 2017 at 2:58 pm //

I express an opinion on the state of the rider organization based on my observations. Yes it’s usually negative. But that is not trolling. If you want to say you don’t like the Stamps go ahead. .I will give you a rebuttal as you will to me. ……trolling is calling me a loser living in my mom’s basement. Or suggesting I’m a virgin at 44…

        • Why does it have to be negative then horsie? Your mom never teach you, if you ain’t got nothing nice to say.. don’t say anything at all? If you are just trying to get a rise out of people(especially the Rider Priders). Than by definition you are a troll. It’s not complicated.
Also I don’t like the stamps(for various reasons) but I also don’t like Montreal and Winnipeg. But again, how many of their fans right now are pulling the same crap? zilch..

I’ve tried to be more civil with you for the past little bit… But no matter how hard I try, you seem to find a new low to jump into. The way I look at it, whats the point?
Also since you hate the Riders and Jones, Tell us why? you never give a real reason..

Like I said above, you act insidious.. and I know damn well you know what that means. That’s not a good thing by the way.

      • George Porge // September 21, 2017 at 3:10 pm //

I don’t think Horsie is offended by your “throwing it back” comments. He’s probably just a bit disappointed that you can’t come up with your own barbs to throw, so you have to steal his.

  20. thanks your post .. In university playoffs, he went a perfect seven-for-seven. He went unselected in the 2016 CFL draft and attended the Eastern regional combine in March.
