Riders sign LB Jeff Knox Jr.

Saskatchewan has added linebacker Jeff Knox Jr. back into the fold.

The 25-year-old was among the final cuts after the Tampa Bay Bucs completed training camp. He was released by Chris Jones and the Riders in January to pursue an NFL opportunity.

Knox played two seasons with Saskatchewan making 177 tackles, 29 special teams tackles, one sack and one interception in 35 games. He was named a CFL West All-Star after his rookie CFL season in 2015.

This is awesome welcome back Jeff!!! Nice try of it south of the border though…the final cuts….

  2. Good to have him back, too bad he isn’t a dime backer, dargan isn’t cutting it

    Good player to be sure.
But who are the Saskatchewan Roughriders? They appear to finally have a decent defence and they have added knox and seem to be wanting to add a few other big name NFL cuts. They continue to be a revolving door. With out doubt there will be many axed this off season as money will need to be saved. Remember this team still at some point will need to spend big on a franchise QB they so desire. Whether it’s Franklin or someone already on roster or elsewhere. No stability at all. Jones must get over his spending on luxury objects.

    • You mean our NFL cast offs? The ones that we released early so they could get a shot? Seems to me some loyalty is starting to show more and more. It’s terrible.. how could we want to bring in a 117 tackle LB from 2015 and almost 80 tackles last year on a part season of play? Why would we want to bring that back? That makes nooooooo sense. Lol Horsie this a joke of statement you made.
Because Calgary has never brought any players back that got cut by the NFL!?

      • white stallion in red // September 11, 2017 at 2:01 pm //

        Not many…

        • You are coming off as joke again horsie. You should probably start to clean yourself up a bit.
He’s a 25 year old stud linebacker… and you’re going to say it was a bad move. You mad you never got a chance to get him?

          • white stallion in red // September 11, 2017 at 4:19 pm //

Jones just cycles through guys. He see one he thinks is better and signs them. Wil this ever end

          • He had him last year.. He knows what he can do. He’s 25, and flies to the football. What more can you ask for in a linebacker? Even one of your Calgary fans gave us an example of you guys doing it too. Aka Cordarro Law. Why bring him back? Since Calgary isn’t a revolving door eh?
You don’t think that Bo Levi wouldn’t jump ship first chance he had at the NFL? Would you sign him back? With your reasoning..I’m going to say no.

          • white stallion in red // September 11, 2017 at 8:19 pm //

Who know RobE… If Bo went to NFL Mr Buckley might just establish himself here and there may not be a spot for Bo if he returned north..
But I do know a team that is desperate for a QB… lol boy would that be some crow eating by rider fans!

          • Will you ever end……..??

      • White Horse // September 11, 2017 at 4:23 pm //

Stamps returned Cordarro Law from NFL but has been on 6 game since his return. This guy is as good as Charleston Hughes.

    • How is bringing back a player who has played the past two seasons with the Riders evidence of a “revolving door” with regard to the roster? That’s just silly.

      • white stallion in red // September 11, 2017 at 4:23 pm //

This is only one example. Jones has been doing this for 2 years. This time next year the riders will look completely different than today. .

    • Bob O’Billovich is supposed to have summed it up nicely: better is better. And it looks like the Riders are getting better. Good for them except this Friday when they should have an off night. 😉

  4. you are a broken record horsie, Jones continues to bring in All Star quality players how can that possibly be a bad thing?
Based on your flawed reasoning the stamps should not sign Laurent Duvernay-Tardif if he got cut??

    • white stallion in red // September 11, 2017 at 4:36 pm //

Allstars players aren’t what you want..you want an allstar team!!!! There is not enough money to go around they way Jones is going

    • white stallion in red // September 11, 2017 at 4:43 pm //

Tardif..calgary might go after..only for the right price…and only because we need the player currently..In Lavertu, Grossman, Bergman,Federkeil proved to stay healthy Calgary probably would be.
Sask is strong at LB. Bringing him in is counter productive at this time

      • You mean a guy that Calgary drafted and went to NFL and no return in sight(Chiefs starter at guard). What was Huffy doing!?!?!? Signing one of the best athletes in a draft that was projected to go to the NFL. Who would ever do that!?!?!?! I wonder how many other GM’s do that…

        • Weird.. I seem to remember a certain someone calling out another GM for doing just that… I wonder who that certain someone could be!?

          • white stallion in red // September 11, 2017 at 7:18 pm //

            Yes RobE I did
I’ve explained this before and know you already know. But I will say again…..calgary clearly has depth….24-2-2.. sask doesn’t they can’t afford the luxury of these types of high risk high reward draft picks ..yet they do and have several player like this…

    • white stallion in red // September 11, 2017 at 8:56 pm //

Anyone can bring in allstar quality players by just signing existing ones when they are available. He should try actually developing them

  5. yeah, as much as you want to say “Nice job. You made the team” they’re not a permanent fixture on the team they’re here until as long as they’re doing their job and they’re dependable and reliable and consistent and improving. Once that curve starts to head the other way I would say it probably isn’t going to last too long. If they cant figure that out then they’re probably going to suffer the consequences. Bill Belichick

door potentially never stops turning in gods country down south and success there is almost guaranteed

  6. No “knox” against the Riders resigning this defensive player. That is the way of the CFL. The issue for Saskatchewan is whether a 38 or so old quarterback can overcome an injury for the next game. Good old Kevin hasn’t been this relevant in decades!

  7. i dont think the riders are done yet i wouldnt be surprised if they sign otha foster

    • white stallion in red // September 11, 2017 at 4:39 pm //

Exactly!!! Thats all to my point. You can’t build a team this way. Where are the young unknowns going to fit in on this team? Jones hears a big name is available he wants him. This isn’t a sustainable way to build a team long term.

      • Big names that were a huge part of his teams(EDM/SASK). Loyalty is shining through. Jeff Knox Jr…. 25 years old. The young guy won’t have a problem fitting in. He could probably take over Dargan’s spot right now. He knows the defense and would be an instant improvement.

        • white stallion in red // September 11, 2017 at 6:00 pm //

With all due respect RobE..Loyalty is a two way street. God knows Jones doesn’t show it. So he’s not likely to get it. As just one example. Dillion Guy professes his loyalty by staying on the riders PR and passing up a chance to go play in BC. How far did that loyalty go?.. . It’s money for Knox and Jones….and once again Jones will be cutting players for cap reasons this off season. Calgary needed linebackers too with the injury to Deron Mayo. Instead of a sexy name like Knox they brought in Shaquille Richardson and Jameer Thurman…( who? You ask). Exactly!. Two guys playing every bit as valuably as Knox and together probably making less than Knox.

          • Who are they? And are they even good!? sounds like a bunch of nobodies. I highly doubt combined they are making less than Knox, he’s coming back for the remainder of the season. Thats not going to be a very large contract.
If you actually watched the first Knox video since he’s back, the reason he signed was because of Jones and the fans. Loyalty at its best.
By the way.. you are Welcome for Dillion Guy.

        • white stallion in red // September 11, 2017 at 6:37 pm //

Yeah Thank you. For another one sided trade RobE!!!! Lololol actually the thank you card was sent to Wally in Vancouver

Exactly my point. These guys are fairly unknown but if you followed things closely you’d see both are playing excellent and gaining accolades for the 9-1-1 Stampeders.
Knox is a successful cfler who got looks in NFL and was cut. These guys always demand the top dollars in terms of international players. He not be here on a short term but I bet Jones will give him $250,000 this off season.

      • And you are worried WHY horse? Please explain so I understand!

  8. BleedzGreen // September 11, 2017 at 4:52 pm //

Released by Tampa Friday, signed with Riders Monday, already attended his first practice, and is confirmed for this Friday’s game. Gotta love this kid’s work ethic. Welcome back Jeff!

    Next up: Otha Foster

    • white stallion in red // September 11, 2017 at 6:40 pm //

Have you forgotten about the salary cap???

      • BleedzGreen // September 11, 2017 at 7:48 pm //

Nope, but you’ve obviously forgotten my last response to you. Clearly perception isn’t your strong suit.

Worry about your own team troll.

  9. I agree with most of you. I see Henoc Muamba (obviously) and Samuel Eguoven (stong hitter) as keepers. If Chris Knox can show versatility which Chris Jones loves, perhaps he can start on the other side. As much as I appreciate Chris Knox, Otha Foster would be the perfect piece of the puzzle to fall into coverages, and what Chris Jones terms as athletic. Nice pickup, though, Riders.

    • Rush 3 D lineman you need 4 linebackers. especially to cover receivers and backs on checkdowns. good on the Riders

  10. Great signing Jeff Knox JR. 1st class player and wants to play for Chris Jones and the Riders.
To white stallion in red (hories) Chris Jones did not get fired after labor day as you claimed would happenhow are you going to twist this?
    Go Rider
