Former Lions DB Ryan Phillips hired as regional scout by B.C.

Ryan Phillips spent 12 of his 13 CFL seasons with the Lions and he’s returning to work for the same organization.

The 34-year-old has been hired as a regional scout by B.C. The two-time Grey Cup champion and four-time CFL All-Star wanted to stay in football even if it wasn’t playing.

Phillips played in 214 games making 486 tackles, 47 interceptions, scoring six defensive touchdowns, recording five sacks and four forced fumbles over a Hall of Fame worthy career.

Recently, Phillips shared who he felt the best defensive backs are around the league for 3DownNation.

  1. He will fit in nicely. From the Seattle area and a hard worker.

On a side note…Looks like we are bringing in Mitchell Gale at QB. Don’t know much about him except that he did not stick in Sask or Toronto. Guessing if we had to go to him, we’re pretty much screwed anyway. Guess at this point of the season, hard to get anyone proven without trading and I do not want to lose anyone. Like Alex Ross a lot but so inexperienced. Guessing for now he will be #2 on the chart and depending on how Gale looks in practise, that may change??

  2. Trade Gale for Collaros… but on second thought… maybe not. Gale has more upside.

  3. Happy to see RP back in the Den

Good to see hard work and dedication rewarded. Classy move by Wally after a tough decision to release him.
