Three CFL teams vying for DL Alex Bazzie, Riders among them

Defensive end Alex Bazzie has three teams interested in his services, per sources.

B.C., Saskatchewan, and one potential mystery squad are all vying for the 27-year-old pass rusher.

Bazzie bounced from the Colts to the Panthers and then signed with the Arizona Cardinals where he attended training camp with the team, but he was released among the final roster cuts. He’s a free agent on both sides of the border and seems to have shifted his focus to the CFL.

Bazzie notched a career-high 11 sacks and 31 tackles to go with a forced fumble in 2016 for BC and he was named a West Division all-star. He’s posted 29 sacks in 50 career CFL games, all with the Lions. The six-foot-one, 228-pound Marshall product has found a way to consistently rush and disrupt the quarterback in the CFL.

  1. We would look amazing in Green and White.

    • brian johnson // September 8, 2017 at 6:02 pm //

you got mixed up there again. you mean green & gold

    • Lancaster/Reed // September 9, 2017 at 12:38 pm //

Yes he would, but i would be suprised if he went anywhere but BC. Players coming back to the CFL tend to go back to familiar surroundings . Sometimes thats a city, or sometimes its a coach, like Jefferson coming to Sask because of Jones.

  2. He** Lol

  3. Very interesting.

  4. white stallion in red // September 8, 2017 at 1:40 pm //

BC is struggling, Toronto is rebuilding. I thought Sask had “arrived” I don’t see why Jones always has to grab bright and shiny objects when he sees them. This obsession will never led to stability in the organization

    • Can you ever have too many amazing d-linemen? I would just add to an already amazing pass rush.

      • white stallion in red // September 8, 2017 at 2:13 pm //

Nope you can never have too many..Except where the CBA salary cap and roster limits are concerned

        • We are paying all of our QB’s the same as Durant is making. I’m sure we are fine with the cap right now.

          • white stallion in red // September 8, 2017 at 5:50 pm //

That’s true. But what about other players?
Dennis was a FA payed handsomely to protect the qbs blindside. He’s not even doing that anymore. You got an expensive backup running back. You will need money to sign Franklin presumably. Your roster isn’t cheap
and if you want that top tier QB it will cost you at some point

          • Because no other team is paying a pretty penny for players? I wonder how expensive Messam is.. or how about Marquay? Maybe lets jump to the other side of the ball. How much is Hugh’s costing you guys? Plus you are paying 1 player aka BLM $500,000. That’s a 1/10th of the cap. Soooooo yeah… whats your point?

Dennis is a natural at playing Guard, so he’s back in his natural position.. We aren’t paying a lot for Campbell who took over his spot. This is a moot point.
And that expensive running back is not getting to start the next few weeks. Not bad having that in our back pocket. Franklin is going to be a next year problem.. Lets worry about that when that time comes. Again another moot point. Please do better next time sir.

          • white stallion in red // September 8, 2017 at 7:02 pm //

Why do you always deflect? Messam is a Canadian and a ratio breaker. He is worth paying. If Calgary took the riders approach we would spend all our money on imports 6

          • white stallion in red // September 8, 2017 at 7:05 pm //

Bo is in the 350,000 range he signed for less so Calgary could keep players like marquay. Bo wants to win. Hughes could have been paid a lot more had we tested FA. Again we wants to be here. The players that want big money are shown the door. Like Dennis.

          • white stallion in red // September 8, 2017 at 7:38 pm //

Dennis might be a natural guard as you say but he was brought in specifically to play left tackle. Guard is an easier and hence less paid position. What happens when Campbell is an FA?You’ll have to kick out Dennis…the revolving door continues to spin. Dennis was a “keystone” signing I was told by rider nation in Feb.

        • That expensive running back (Owens I’m assuming you’re talking about), has cost cost the Riders nothing in the salary cap as he’s been on the ir and hasn’t played.

          • white stallion in red // September 8, 2017 at 11:05 pm //

Nope. It’s LaFrance I’m speaking of. Owens isn’t a running back

          • Lancaster/Reed // September 9, 2017 at 9:15 am //

So Horsie, lets see if i have this straight. For calgary, paying Messam a boatload of money is not a problem because as a canadian, he is a ratio breaker. But for the Riders , paying Lefrance a lot of money ( im sure he is making 10s of thousands less than Messam), is a major cap issue even though he is canadian, and thus a ratio breaker. Got it. Either you are an idiot, or a hypocrite. Care to tell me which one? Both is also an option.

    • Get a life!! You’re worried that Jones is just making the Riders stronger and peeing your panties that the Riders are going to beat the Stumps sorry little ass the next two games when they meet.

Unlike you, my opinion is unbiased and so I believe the Riders will win the next 2 games by 3 and 8 points respectfully. But, the Riders wil probably lose to the Stumpies in the playoffs only because the Riders are so new they haven’t got the playoff winning mentality deeply ingrained as much as the Stumpies do. And there’s always the “On any given day” factor where anybody can win.

We have the youngest team in the league so your rant that the Riders need to develop players like the Stumps is a crok**. You ask the stupidist questions like why does Jones always want the next best thing. Ijiot (intentional, spelling), because that’s what competitive sports always do. They compete always always 24/7 keep trying to improve their team. Frankly, Alex will make a very Rider D even better. The Riders are 2nd in the CFL with the least points allowed after Calgary. If the Riders didn’t have a slow start based on the last 3 games points allowed (3 game avg 21 pts) (9 game avg 25 pts) they’d be just about even with the Stumps points allowed (10 game avg 18.7 pts).

Beware, little man, the Riders are going to take your Stumps out behind the woodshed a couple times later this season. Then hopefully, you’ll quit commenting on everything Riders. Careful, your jealousy is showing.

        Thanks Allan.
        Please allow my rebuttal

1st, the rider don’t have him yet

2nd, You say good team always go after the next great thing..calgary doesn’t. They make their own. Working out well for them
3rd, the Riders in fact have one of the oldest teams. There is a TSN article you should read about it

        • white stallion in red

[1] 1st, the rider don’t have him yet
          (1) I never said anywhere that they had him. The body and nuances of my post was about pursuing, never was it said he was acquired! I said Alex will make a VG Rider D even better. Logical interpretation is expected from the reader which you missed.

[2] 2nd, You say good team always go after the next great thing..calgary doesn’t. They make their own. Working out well for them
          (2) What Jones is doing is exactly what Bill Belichick does in New England. Do you want to compare your Stumps to Belichick’s team. Which do you think will come out the stronger? Definately, NOT the stumps!!

[3] 3rd, the Riders in fact have one of the oldest teams. There is a TSN article you should read about it
          (3) I also got my info that the Riders were he youngest team (about, 26.8 yrs; oldest team was 28.6 yrs) from an article (TSN?) at the early part of this year. Riders haven’t done many changes this year so I can’t see it changing much.

Provide a link to the (TSN) article if you’re going to make an accusation.

My next response will be my last with this article as I have better things to do than argue moot irrelevant points. I blame myself for responding to an unimportant post.

          • Do not bring facts into the argument….it makes Horsee’s head hurt trying to spin his way out of it.

          • Christopher // September 8, 2017 at 5:31 pm //

What Jones is doing is exactly what Bill Belichick does in New England. …. CHEAT?

          • white stallion in red // September 8, 2017 at 5:55 pm //

Bill Bellichick signs big names FA’s?? He signs other teams cast off and makes them stars! Only big ones were Jr Seau and Randy Moss

      • brian johnson // September 8, 2017 at 6:07 pm //

I agree Riders are finally getting better.
But will miss the playoff yet again.

  5. Stephen Fisher // September 8, 2017 at 1:51 pm //

I don’t understand why Montreal would not be involved. John Bowman is in his last year, and definitely not as awesome as in his glory days. Montreal will have the most rebuilding to do in the next year or two. Bowman, Chip Cox, Stefane Logan, Kyries Hebert (and DD) are all in their mid-30s and running out of career time. It is really sad that Mtl has had four bad years in a row and looking forward to losing all these All-Star veterans to old-age soon

  6. Jones smart. He either gets the player or forces the other teams to overspend. Also remember he got rid of Durant so he could do stuff like this…

    • white stallion in red // September 8, 2017 at 2:04 pm //

Gets other teams to over spend…the most over rated strategy on this planet. First off, it can back fire and cause you to over spend for a player you may not even want (do you ever watch storage wars? It happens there all the time). Second it’s shortsighted . As an example, it’s widely known Jones will make a play for Franklin. If he plays this game with BC and Tor regarding Bazzie would they not just turn around and do to it Jones with Franklin and make him over pay?.

      • Storage wars?? haha, give it up dude

      • That other reply was not from me. I have nothing nice to say to the horses ass but that wasn’t me.

      • Christopher // September 8, 2017 at 5:34 pm //

Franklin is never going tot he riders… regardless of what Jones wan
        ts…

        • Lol… Because Christopher knows everything! Franklin is going to go to where he believes is his best opportunity. The Riders as whole are on the up and up. It very well could be here. There is no guarantee’s.

          • white stallion in red // September 8, 2017 at 7:42 pm //

That’s very true. Who knows, maybe he’ll decide to sign in Calgary for less than Jones was offering. He wants to learn to win under the best organization and take over for Bo in 7 years.

  7. grumblingaboutgreen // September 8, 2017 at 3:06 pm //

AMERICAN players never fail to make an IMPRESSION do they? i think ive FIGURED OUT why so many ex alouettes are on the RIDERS. jones has a SUBCONSCIOUS connection in his HEAD between these players and the ones we know as popps FOLLIES. but since he cant get the BIG NAME washouts like chad OCHOCINCO michael sam or troy smith he has to SETTLE for the NEXT BEST available! a little bit like WILY COYOTES latest condition you cant HELP but want to see what kind of a DISASTER hes going to cobble together THIS time from all those pieces. will someone please remind JONES to wipe his CHIN when hes finished with all this VYING? to clean up for DINNER if he ever catches that ROADRUNNER or just ends up eating CROW!

  8. Rumblinbumblinfumblin // September 8, 2017 at 4:28 pm //

Alex would be a benefit to the Riders. They usually employ a 3 or 4 man rush and hope to disrupt a qb using a man to man in the secondary. If he can generate pressure off the other side or up the middle then it means the riders can drop 7or 8 guys deep.

That being said I think the riders would be better to develop long term and going one and done will not be long term beneficial.

  9. Christopher // September 8, 2017 at 5:36 pm //

With all the fake injuries the rider D-line comes up with …. can they really have too man??? they dressed 8 D-linemen in the last game… when does that ever happen????

    • Lol really man? Have you ever watched football in your life?
On an aggressive d-line they dress extra for subs to keep legs fresh. Weird how we have terrorized other qb’s this way. Why do you think 3 man pressure as worked so well the past few weeks?
Must be another Wah Wah Wah Whinerpeger this guy. Whining for losing the game because of 4 turnovers..but lets blame the Riders anyways… Lol what a joke.

    • Wow a new Rider hater hits the air waves. Nothing you say is opinion and mere hater’s rhetoric. You’re late to the party and have a lot of posting to do if you ever desire to be like horsie and his many personalities. Riders are on the way up and there is nothing you can do or say that will change that. Bazzie is a good player and may surface in the CFL. Where is yet to be seen.

      • white stallion in red // September 8, 2017 at 6:22 pm //

Calgary has no where to go but stay level..still a long climb. You may never get there

        • It’s so easy to be smug when you’re team wins. Soon enough, the Stumps will fall and the ride will be over. There is nothing worse than an arrogant winner. You all fit the dress perfectly.

          • white stallion in red // September 8, 2017 at 6:55 pm //

When? I hear rider fans make that prediction everyweek. There is no indication the good times will end anytime soon. I’m already looking forward to the Calgary Stampeders invitational on Nov 19. Maybe the riders can fight their way there

  10. horsie how do you no it is toronto after bassie the article doesnt say so but you no everything right i think the riders my sign both bassie and foster they weould have a strong defence than but horsie thinks it is toronto where bassie will sign and horsie no everything wrong

  11. Jose Perez // September 8, 2017 at 9:01 pm //

Wally better wake the f up we need Bazzie back. If we don’t because Wally is cheap then fans will be pissed

  12. Him and Foster can come and start tomorrow , could solidify our run to the grey cup !!

  13. ,,Patience // September 9, 2017 at 1:09 am //

The TSN crew has said that the Riders are the second oldest team, only behind Montreal. Labatte, Coleman, Dyakowski, Johnson, Bag, Bartel, Owens, Bakari Grant, Butler, Hecht, Henry and Glenn have all seen their 30th birthday. Roosevelt turns 30 later this year. Campbell, Dennis and Steele all turn 30 next year. There’s your youth movement.

  14. RJ Johnson Jr // September 9, 2017 at 10:58 am //

Ya know, I like coming on this site to read articles about the Riders. But, every time I do, Pony Boy ( aka Horsie, redstallion, whatever) is here trolling the same articles. I don’t get it. Who in the world would spend their time doing something like that? I googled what “Storage Wars” was and it did give me some insight. If you’ve really got that little going on in your life to watch Storage Wars, why not troll stories about teams other than yours. But, I believe it’s more than Pony Boy doesn’t have a life. Obviously there is some kind of envy going on there. The only reason someone has to enter a discussion ithats not really relevant to him and bad-mouth the other teams would be a) just doesn’t have a life or friends, etc and this (CFL, football) is the ONLY thing in his life or b) he is envious of the passion of other teams fans or c) he’s just a knob and one of “those” people that we all come across every now and then in our lives

  15. I hope you all realize that we will lose this site as we know it if the name calling and insults start again. And they have started again. Debate with facts, not insults.

  16. anyone no when the cfl practice roosters increase there should be some good players brought in

  17. rider rooter // September 11, 2017 at 11:27 am //

this might be a wild idea , to bad the club that employed the player originally would be able to make a qualifying offer to the player. Like a Big hill or Bazzie
