Eskimos draft pick Tevaun Smith released by Colts

Canadian receiver Tevaun Smith has been let go by the Indianapolis Colts.

He suffered a groin injury early in training camp and that led to him being waived.

After a four-year career at the University of Iowa where Smith made 102 receptions for 1,500 yards and seven touchdowns, the speedy receiver posted blistering times at his Iowa Pro Day. The six-foot-two, 205-pounder went unselected in the 2016 NFL Draft, but he signed as a priority free agent with Indianapolis.

The Toronto, Ontario native was on Indy’s practice roster before being activated – following a strong training camp and pre-season which saw Smith make 10 receptions for 138 yards and two touchdowns in four games – and playing in two games during his rookie season in 2016.

Smith was selected in the first round, 8th overall by the Edmonton Eskimos in the 2016 CFL Draft last May.

Could be a smart move for the esks if he recovers from his groin injury.
Jones could learn a thing or 2

      • About?????

About evaluating risk when it comes it drafting players on the fine line between CFL prospect and NFL prospect, Knowing if the risk is worth drafting this player earlier, later or not at all.

Absolutely Yup. Exept it was only one GM, with very weak Canadian depth that drafted a player that is at least 3 years away from the CFL, with his 3rd pick. That GM Being Chris Jones and that player being Anthony Auclair

Judge!! He was one of the biggest prospects their was. He was never a huge nfl prospect and is still a question mark in the CFL. It appears St John is a bust and Bladek seems to making little impact. I say to date Jones gets a low D in his draft grade.

          • Still not too sure why this concerns you so much, but I suppose it’s good to have a hobby. And it appears you enjoy following the Riders

          Whatever you say Yup.

          • Well horse – for your sake I hope because Dickenson is such a dominant coach, that he gets an offer he can’t refuse South of the border and Jones leaves the Riders to coach the stumps so your stars and moons will align, then you will finally be at peace

Lol that is a stretch. I doubt the Stamps would take Jones again. Funny you mention this all….Dave Dickensen was offered HC jobs in Bc,sask, winnipeg when he was still OC in Calgary. He turned down out of loyalty so Huff returned the loyalty by stepping down and giving him the HC job That’s how thing work in Calgary. Loyalty my friend loyalty

          • I just want yo see you happy horse you know that. By the way weren’t you all over Dillon Guy opting to stay with the Riders ?? I thought that was loyalty but you cry conspiracy.

          Lol apple to orange comparison.
If you are saying Dave’s loyalty to stamps was because Huff was lining his pockets so what!!!!! Coaches aren’t part of the CBA.
Players on your practice roster are!!!

Given all the injuries to the Eskimos receivers, it could be good timing for Smith. Pack your bags and head to Edmonton. They can certainly use you!

  3. That would be a huge September addition to the Esks. With Behar, they have two future blue chip national receivers to go with vets like Watson and off-injured Chambers. Likely the last season for Getzlaf.

  4. Trade Behar to Hamilton.

Smith will be better than the other Canadians on Edmonton I would think … started at Iowa 2 yrs and those measureables equal a rare Canadian find imo
