Duron Carter crosses centre line, Josh Bell takes exception, Carter retaliates

Riders receiver Duron Carter crossed the centrefield line during pre-game warm-ups at McMahon Stadium on Saturday night.

Stampeders defensive back Josh Bell made sure to push him back on the proper side.

Carter was fined for the pre-game altercation.

Carter retaliated by delivering a questionable block on Bell during game play.

That’s his second fine already this season after he was fined for a particularly nasty play in the Riders 43-40 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Canada Day.

During a second quarter interception return by the Bombers T.J. Heath, Carter grabbed the face mask of Winnipeg linebacker Sam Hurl, twisting him around 180 degrees. Carter, somewhat unbelievably, was not penalized on the play.

Carter has instigated in the past. While a member of the Montreal Alouettes last season, Carter was suspended one game by the league after bumping Ottawa Redblacks coach Rick Campbell near the sidelines after scoring a touchdown.

The Alouettes eventually released Carter after a practice altercation with quarterback Rakeem Cato and he signed with the Riders in January.

  1. I am an older guy, but the name that comes to mind for Carter is punk.

He continues to embarrass himself and his team.

  2. this is why montreal let him go, great receiver, but nothing between the ears. he could never be a player like his dad was.

Just at halftime. Big man for somebody with 0 catches for zero yards

    • Why don’t you say that to his face big guy? Yea, didn’t think so keyboard warrior.

      • I said it to his face or at least from row 10. He is on pace for 701 yards the season which isn’t bad for a fourth receiver, but is brutal for a feature one a his salary. A far doesn’t have to be in range of a Carter punch to legitimately point this out.

Rowdy? What dd he do tonight? He acted stupid before the game and did nothing! That makes you look like a chump! The time bomb will go off soon

      • Prove Me Wrong // July 23, 2017 at 12:03 pm //

Rowdy… YOU are the epitome of a “keyboard warrior”. (You can google epitome)

  4. Funny to see Rick Campbell’s exaggerated fall from the blantant bump & take a dive to draw a penalty. He would of been a great soccer player.

    • BC Dave // July 23, 2017 at 2:36 am //

O have seen that replay many times and I do not think Campbell exaggerated. Of course I can see why Rider fans would want to think that.

  5. Suspend him for this. He is an instigator.

    • And that makes bell flipping his wig any better ?? These guys chirp all the time, if he can’t handle it maybe soccer is more suited. I hear it’s big in Toronto….bigger than the argos that’s for sure

    • Kitten. Yes. Sit him for one and see if his coach can get his head right. Next infraction sit him for two and fine the team.

  6. History will only remember him for those kinds of things. His dad he will never be.

    • Duron Carter’s dad had a mostly off the field troubled start to his career and it took being traded to help him mature.

One day Duron will mature and become a great player. Trouble is, we don’t know when.

      • Hors E Power // July 23, 2017 at 1:49 am //

Big difference between him and his Dad , Carter JR grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth

      • James Smith // July 23, 2017 at 9:06 am //

Duron’s father smartened up after a trade. Duron doesn’t seem that smart.

  7. Most disgusting start to a game Mr Curling has ever experienced guess 4 challenges in first 3 minutes is how Calgary rules. WELL, I’m out. THANKS FOR THE KIND WORDS(SOMETIMES) but a 51 year Cal season ticket holder ×4 is gone for good, good luck for your league. Feel better already

    • Prove Me Wrong // July 23, 2017 at 12:06 pm //

Typical rider fan… on the bandwagon… off the bandwagon. I guess we will be back to rider telethons in a few years when rider-dead-nation returns to its traditional lethargic state.

    • Prove Me Wrong // July 23, 2017 at 2:15 pm //

Mr Curling, aka big mouth from vegerville, you are NOT a 51 year Stamps season ticket holder, you are a rider fan, so stop pretending otherwise.

  8. Carter didn’t cross midfield

  9. During the game lol

  10. He went past centre field up to the 50.

    • grumblingaboutgreen // July 23, 2017 at 12:23 am //

do you see YARD LINE hes at in the first AND second animations RICO? that ARROW pointing at the CALGARY end means hes on the WRONG side of the field! and UNDOUBTEDLY hes doing it to STIR the POT, look at his “who me?” hands while bell is ushering him BACK to his OWN turf. thats NOT the reaction of somebody SURPRISED to find himself being PHYSICALLY removed, its the reaction of somebody who came for the SOLE purpose of GOADING the opposition. UNFORTUNATELY for this rider DOPE the refs CORRECTLY identified HIM crossing centre field as the OFFENCE and didnt consider BELL as the TROUBLEMAKER!

SORRY rico the forum displayed CHILLS first comment under YOUR name and thats what this was SUPPOSED to be a REPLY to. no ARGUMENT with your OBSERVATION!

Even Chill was being funny…Carter never crossed the 50, during the game.
Well…I thought it was funny Chill.

Duron Carter is a distraction – 4th in receiving yards on the a Riders, as many misses as catches. Dennis too has been telling all the DE’s how good he is. Welcome to the real world, Derek. You don’t scare Hughes much. The Riders talk a good game for a club who’s only beaten Hamilton. A little humility is in order. As for Jones – who is afraid of Jones???

    • Have to agree. Riders played a horrible game, but credit to the Stamps for rubbing dirt in the Green & White’s face without any retribution at all. Riders need to show a lot more intensity offensively and defensively. Special teams, for the most part was decent. Also concerned with the game plan the coaches had for the Stamps. Defense needs to get pressure and use blitzes instead of being vanilla (this is on Jones). Team seemed like pushovers and Calgary took advantage of it. Lots of questions need to be answered before they play Toronto, Friday afternoon. And the players, especially the linemen on both sides of the ball, need to show up if this team has any hope of beating Toronto. Bad game, Riders!!!

  12. Mr. Carter has emotional issues. I think everyone sees that clearly. Including Wonderful Jones. So why would Wonderful Jones give him a job? Obviously he relates to Carter. The Riders won’t turn the corner until Carter is gone. Too many guys hold back a bit when they have to play with an asshole.

  13. Beamreach // July 23, 2017 at 9:59 am //

Carter plays with a bit much emotion = entertainment like a fight in a Hockey game fans love it….

Most important comment is by Mike Griffin
“Most disgusting start to a game Mr Curling has ever experienced guess 4 challenges in first 3 minutes is how Calgary rules. WELL, I’m out” -4 seat season ticket holder in Calgary ……
Coaches challenges are boring ,irritating ,frustrating , especially for Fans in the stands!I agree also out as a season ticket holder in Hamilton.

    • I was kinda glad that they got a bunch of challenges out of the way early in the game.

Giving up season tickets because you don’t like the CFL Challenge System is weak, very weak.

  14. Dan Bombers // July 23, 2017 at 10:14 am //

Every time I see carter hitting the coach I think about what would of happened if that was mike O’Shea !! O’Shea would of put him on his ass !!

  15. Agreed, the 1st drive was disgraceful…league has huge issues to fix. Illegal contact on dooesnt matter situations are a travesty.

On Carter, should not have crossed center but the retaliation was excessive. Hope Bell is fined.

More on Carter… its actually nice to see a current Rider playing with emotion. The rest of the team with the exception of Marshall seem to be sleep walking(playing) out there.

Lastly. Im surprised to see Stamps fans posting on here. I didnt think they would be able to answer the spambot question.

Sorry that was for the Horsie troll.

    • Hors E Power // July 23, 2017 at 10:45 am //

I’d let that insult slide……I know you are all bleeding this morning

      • Not bleeding g too bad honestly, Riders never play well in McMahon. Calgary played the 1st and 4th quarter and Saskatchewan played the 3rd. Not the dominant Stampeder team it has been. Thought the squirrel was a nice touch though

        • Hors E Power // July 23, 2017 at 2:46 pm //

Yeah ok. you just keep living in an imaginary world.
Reality is the riders are already out of it. Read my comment in “Back to square 1 story” if you want to know why

          • Bo homo and the old grey mare just ain’t what it use to be. They’ve beaten every team at home….let’s see how the season shakes down. One thing for sure is that they will sh*t the bed of the make it to playoffs

  16. Prove Me Wrong // July 23, 2017 at 12:32 pm //

Carter is the perfect ambassador for rider-dead-nation. All talk and cheap shots followed by a losing performance. No wonder jones picked him off the slag heap.

  17. pantsonfire // July 23, 2017 at 3:39 pm //

So Carter’s stunt is OK because he shows emotion??? I’d say 2 catches on 5 targets for 12 yards is not playing on emotion. Probably got rid of all his “emotion” grandstanding. Get your head in the game. You’re not intimidating anyone with your stunt. Did nothing afterwards – who psyched out who Duron? Pathetic.

  18. Hors E Power // July 23, 2017 at 3:51 pm //

Sweeping change ….get rid of Jones, carter and Murphy in one big swoop!

    • Can’t say I’m a huge fan of Jones either and was skeptical about bringing Cater on board. I still think Carter has a lot of talent however am still on the fence with Jones

    • I am not sure an avowed Calgary fan has the right to suggest that the coach be fired. He is still feeling the pinch of Murphy leaving the good ship horsy. Fire Huff and Dickenson

      • Hors E Power // July 24, 2017 at 3:50 pm //

Yeah because losing Murphy as been so devastating to this team. That 15-2-1 record last year and 3-1-1 so far this year are really hard pills to swallow. Having all those injuries and having 4th string d-linemen come in and be better than Sask’s starters has really been tough.
Meanwhile in Sask Murphy as such a pipeline of prospects the riders will never have to rely on FA’s or other teams rejects ever.

  19. 9inchTroy // July 23, 2017 at 4:19 pm //

I used to cheer for Carter when he tried out for Colts but now I can’t stand the guy. He was given a 2nd chance in Sask and he continues to mouth off and be a cancer on the team. Just look at the bench when Sask scores a TD.. all the WR’s are together and Carter is alone on end of the bench. Time to send a message to Carter and just cut him. Embarrassment to any team he plays on and embarrassment to the entire league.

  20. riderontheisland // July 24, 2017 at 5:27 pm //

Like Carter or not (not my favorite player by any stretch), but the block was legal and good. Now if only he could get open.
