Redblacks put former Riders DL Jonathan Newsome on six-game injured list

Ottawa has put defensive lineman Jonathan Newsome on the six-game injured list.

The 26-year-old signed with the Redblacks just days after being released by Saskatchewan. Then he shared his side of the story as to why Chris Jones let him go.

Newsome did not play in Week 1 for the Riders, but he suited up in Week 2 against Winnipeg and recorded one tackle and an interception.

He played in 18 games last season for Saskatchewan, making 27 defensive tackles, six special teams tackles and two sacks.

It’s hard to blame Newsome for being angry. We know understand even more the bad intentions in releasing him. Jones didn’t want to place him on IR because Jones is using it to hide some players.
Mr. Ambrosie, we have your first assignment

hopefully newsome will come to see this as a BLESSING in DISGUISE as he will be given the OPPORTUNITY to practise his CRAFT when he comes off the ir list! then he can let of of that ANGER and thank his lucky STARS he is no longer stuck in a DEAD END and subject to the CAPRICIOUS personnel decisions in saskatchewan

Huh? As usual, you make no sense. If the Riders truly wanted to keep Newsome and they allegedly “hide” players on the IR, then Newsome could’ve been transferred to IR in that scenario. Hell, I’m surprised that you didn’t hypothesize that’s the actual reason that the RBs transferred him to the IR. Newsome was a fringe player in Jones’ system so hopefully he can succeed in the RB system.

    • You have no idea what you are talking about Horsie… Spew some more crap. I think after our last game, there was a good reason why he was released. A.C. Leonard took his spot… and is running with it big time. Its not like we got rid of Jefferson, the best pass rusher in the league right now. Its plain and simple.. He underperformed and talked badly of coaches. Would Huffy take that? I think not.

The stumps 6 game IR is pretty packed… I wonder what Huffy is hiding something there? Mr. Ambrosie, I think its time take a look in to Huffys antics.. It’s time to get rid of the old boys club.. Its the only way for this league to grow as a whole.

By the way you never answered me in on my previous article. Its been over a day and still no response? You have nothing to come back with?

what question did you ask/ ask away,, ill answer

        • RobE // July 11, 2017 at 2:59 pm //
Horsie.. I have question. Since you are talking about regular season wins.. How has that translated in the playoffs/Grey cup? Sure if you want to be proud of all your regular season wins, thats good and all. But when the game truly matters, it seems your team knows one thing… and its C.H.O.K.E.

Since 2007 how many Grey cups have you won? 2? and how many have we won? 2? Hmmm Now do you guys want to start talking about apperances? I believe it is 4 a peice… Power house..Regular season wins…Hah! The stats never lie 😉

Plus I also have your response answer for you too 🙂

Horsie… still waiting for a response on this. I know there really isn’t much you can say right now. Maybe starting talking about before 2007..But lets be real. It was 10 years ago now, and the salary cap is in place. Thats the only time any of this should even matter, as every team has an equal chance of winning.

          I’m waiting… 😉

    • How is this any different from Ottawa hiding him on the 6 game IR

      • Hors E Power // July 12, 2017 at 5:22 pm //

difference is Ott, Cal and all other teams will shift around when a player is actually hurt and needs the IR spot. Sask just releases them claiming not to know of the injury

    • truenorthern // July 12, 2017 at 4:28 pm //

nice try horsie, teams cannot release injured players, the league has never allowed that, Newsome made no mention of injury.
What is your issue with Jones?? Do you know him? Why is this so personal for you?

      • Hors E Power // July 12, 2017 at 4:49 pm //

exactly!!! bs jones didn’t know he was hurt. he mi

        • HenryStampsFan // July 12, 2017 at 5:28 pm //

Horse you need to get a life. So YOU call bs and that just makes it a fact? My god I feel for your family. Daddy never gave you a football as a child I presume. Go back into your barn and get euthanized. You make Stamps fans seem like idiots.

          • HenryStampsFan // July 12, 2017 at 5:29 pm //

And yes I am a stamps season ticket holder since 97. Go Stamps but Horsie needs to be cut off this site.

        • Truenorthern // July 12, 2017 at 10:26 pm //

Answer the question. Why personal attacks on Jones?? What’s your deal?

        • Truenorthern // July 12, 2017 at 11:45 pm //

Lying again horsey. Teams can’t release injured players . Answer the question, what’s up with personal attacks on coach jones?? Do you know him? Did you meet him and he ignored you? What’s up?

      • Antlerman // July 12, 2017 at 5:49 pm //

Jones run over his dog or stooped his cough cough Lol

    • Again…….please go feed your horse !!

Newsome is said to have issues with hamstring. Ottawa plays three games between now and the 24th. Desjardins sounded as though he didn’t expect Newsome to be available until at least after that stretch but knowing how cautious they are with injuries (William Powell as an example) it wouldn’t surprise me if he spent the entire six games on the injured list.

  3. Rick cowan // July 12, 2017 at 3:03 pm //

Horsepower oh ya you no everything about the Riders how about if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all I don’t know what is but what do you have against the Rider’s

  4. Hope all goes well for him. I appreciated when he bought some game tickets for some under-privileged fans last year, was a classy move.

  5. How is Jefferson the best pass rusher in the league? As for Leonard, he hasn’t done much. Butler for one has also played Hamilton & Winnipeg. Plus he played Ottawa which is way better than the Als we played. He’s been unstoppable. Jefferson doesn’t compare at this point. Let’s not get carried away with our one win vs a really bad club. Talk to me after the next 5 games. I’ve never seen so many over the moon with a 1-2 record. Luckily Jones finally did what Rider fans have been saying all along – stop rushing 3!!!! Some genius!

    • Don’t worry, we’ll welcome you back on the bandwagon when the time comes! In the meantime, we appreciate your sunny demeanor, pretty sure your the most positive guy on the entire site, right up there with Hors E Power.

    • E W you have absolutely not been reading the news lately. He leads the league in QB pressures. Saying Jefferson doesn’t compare, you obviously have no clue what you are talking about. You must never watch football.
Sure it’s not offical sacks, but those will come. It doesn’t matter what tackle is out there, he runs them. He can’t be stopped. The QB always feels his breath down his neck.
As for Leonard, what games have you been watching? He’s been a beast out there. Again making a certain Newsome expendable.
We shall be talking again in 5 games.

  6. Hors E Power. …you should comment on the big mouth your QB has

  7. RobE, better look at the stats. Butler’s pressures & sacks are better & if you count knockdowns, forced fumbles & the whole gamut of what’s measured in DL stats, Jefferson is down the list a ways & nowhere near Butler. Regardless, we’ve played 2 teams unlikely to be in the playoffs & the only teams ranked below us in the power rankings (Mtl & Hamilton), plus lost to the team in the West we likely have to beat for 4th place & a crossover. So sure, let’s talk after the next 5 games & see where we’re at. Love your enthusiasm for the team but hey – no home town bias eh? As for Leonard, he had 2 sacks in his 1st game last year & did almost nothing the rest of the year. No offence, but “that don’t impress me much”. Cheers.

    • E W
By the end of the year we shall see. Butler will slow down eventually, first season in 2 years. Its not going to last. Jefferson is a straight up beast.
Our good games are coming after this bye week and I can’t wait. Really show the rest of the CFL we are for real.
Plus it was Leonards first pro year as a DE last year, pretty sure he was a reciever/TE in college/pros. I’m not worried about him.

  8. Yawn … Hors E Power = dork!
