Ticats missing key players as practice resumes

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats were without three key contributors as practice got underway on Tuesday.

Mike Filer, who was injured in the first half of last Saturday’s loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, was absent as the team took to the field for the their first on-field session of the week. All-star linebacker Simoni Lawrence missed the opening minutes of practice but participated in the latter half.

Linebacker Will Hill, who has been suspended one game by the CFL for making contact with an official, was also absent as things got underway at Tim Hortons Field. Hill has the option of appealing the league’s ruling, which would likely allow him to play in Saturday’s home opener against the B.C. Lions.

Defensive back Abdul Kanneh, a key free agent acquisition who has missed the first two games of the season due to injury, practiced on Tuesday.

The Ticats also made a couple of roster moves on Tuesday, signing national defensive back Tristan Doughlin to the practice roster and releasing American DB Chris Davis.

  2. The Cats have struggled against BC with JJ at QB. Trying to be positive here, but this game will be over by halftime. With the schedule we have, the odds we start 0-6 are really good. 🙁

The Ticats have a legitimate shot at this game if they can shore up the o-line and Collaros stands in the pocket and delivers instead of running scared. BC D is tremendous but JJ is off to a slow start to the season and actually hasn’t looked good at all. Surprised that he’s ranked #5 by CFL.CA considering both his QUAR and efficiency rating have him ranked 8th. I guess the writers subjective opinion is more relevant than the objective stats.

BC is also on the 3rd game of an eastern swing so maybe all the travel and time zones differential will have an effect. Not much hope for the Ticats against the team I project to finish 1st in the West but I sure hope they can come out on top.

    • “legitimate” shot?
How do they shore up the O-line? if Filer is injured it means another back up. The CFL is lacking in the O-line position, and it’s due to the Canadian content rule.
Teams have to play Canadians and there are not enough out there so they put them on the least talented positions on the field – the “O” Line.

Nope. The whole team will be over at Braley’s for a BBQ party, as per tradition, couple nights before the game. Travis will be talking strategy with Jonathan on how to be the first CFL team in history to reach triple digits. Perhaps blindfolds might be in order for TC officials to hand out to the fans Saturday.

  4. Bad is bad…
And the Cats are worse than bad..right now.
BC will come into THF and slam my Cats…right into the ground.
We have big trouble in Hamilton….
It could turn out to be a very..very long season.
    Sad but true.

The only hope Hamilton has in their home opener is if this is a trap game for BC. That is possible

No, I suspect that BC could sleepwalk through this game and still win by a few points. If they come in motivated, then Cats will be crushed and THF will be virtually empty by the end of the 3Q. But beer sales could set a record despite that!

BC by 25. Pros against amateurs.

  7. Never lose faith, Ti-Cats by 3.

  8. It will be over for the cats after kick off the team is a mess.

I’ll be cheering for the Hammer! The Riders of the East, Oskie Wee Wee!

  10. Have some confidence people, issues will be addressed this week plus we’ll have home field advantage for the first time this season. Things have been far from pretty but chill out! Its early!

    • No it’s not the first home game. BMO Field just a short distance down the highway for the first game, there were more Ticat fans than Argo fans!!!
The Ticats have the biggest advantage over other teams in the league, they get extra home games when they play in Toronto – no travel time, no hotels, no time change and the stands full of their own fans.

Even if the Ticats go 1-6 to open the season, they will win that one game. Maybe, just maybe, it will be this one.
Need Emmanuel Davis back for the other DHB spot.

Not going to bother wasting electrons mentioning need for diversified running game. Oops, I did it.

  12. I hope Hamilton puts the boots to the lions. Great fans of the cfl deserve a W. Austin s a bum and should never have won the cup in ’07. All fluke. Had a 9-9 team that year. Living on past laurels. He’s the problem, not the solution !!!
