Trio of CFL draft picks attending New York Giants rookie mini-camp

Carleton receiver Nate Behar and defensive backs Tunde Adeleke and Nate Hamlin have accepted invites to attend New York Giants rookie mini-camp from May 12-14, per sources.

Behar was selected fifth overall by the Eskimos in the 2017 CFL draft. The Ravens captain was a 2016 USports All-Canadian after making 57 receptions for 788 yards and nine touchdowns last year for Carleton.

Adeleke went in the third round, 25th overall to the Stampeders. He started at safety for the Ravens recording 25 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and one interception while doubling as an explosive returner, leading all USports football universities with five return touchdowns in 2016.

The Lions took Hamlin in the fourth round, 33rd overall. The long cover man made 25.5 tackles and broke-up two passes during his senior season.

  1. 3rd and 4th round CFL draft picks who presumably didn’t drop in the draft due to NFL interest suddenly have NFL mini camp interest. Strange.

  2. I guess the NYG need some warm bodies to make their own draft picks look good at their mini camp!

Ever think that the reason these guy were drafted so low was because the CFL teams knew there was NFL interest?

  4. who isn’t going to Giants minicamp at this point?

  5. The CFL Canadian Draft is an absolute joke! When is the CFL going to wake up and come to realization that the Canadian players and their basically, controlling Canadian player’s union made up of carefully selected over-rated and grossly overpaid Canadian O-Linemen and their controlling, handcuffing, guaranteed Canadian starter ratio and huge guaranteed Canadian roster ratio, are using the CFL and making a complete mockery out of the CFL. Who aren’t even committed to the CFL Canadian Draft or committed to even playing in the CFL, as you see! And if the CFL don’t eliminate their using handcuffing, guaranteed Canadian starter ratio and finally allow the CFL Coaches to recruit and start the best and most talented available players to start and play in the CFL for entire game and at every position in the CFL. There won’t be CFL!

    • Yep, it’s getting close to the point where it may be time eliminate the ratio & allow teams to employ an unlimited # of imports if need be. The ratio causes salaries to be way too high for those required 7 Canadian starters & of course you now have both high round & low round CFL draft picks either signing with NFL teams or buggering off to NFL mini camps as soon as they’re grafted…..

  6. One of the NY Giants player personnel guys is from Toronto I believe. This is a yearly thing for the Gmen because of this. He wants to find a diamond in the rough from Canada to justify his roots and his job. He got the center from the Stamps several years ago. This started this whole thing. Most if not all of these invitees will be in the CFL in 2017.

  7. Once a player isn’t drafted or invited before the CFL draft and is picked in CFL draft then should be contracted and obligated to CFL team that he was selected by. Unless he is released. This is how it should be not the way it is. Canadian talent is being stolen from us because of the ones who run the Canadian players union. If they don’t change their ways they should be gone and bring in someone who believes in the CFL more than the NFL because at this point they are looking out for the interests of the NFL and not what made them and their career and that is a bad thing.
    Things need to change.

  8. Why not just wish the men good luck with this opportunity? It is a once in a lifetime opportunity that isn’t extended to everyone who has played usports/cis football, invited to the CFL combine or drafted. From what I understand 6 Carleton Ravens were drafted but 3 were invited to the NYG mini-camp. Perhaps they are a little more selective than what is stated above. I also hope anyone who attempts to critisize the skill and quality of a Canadian university football player vs one from the US has either at least played or coached at the CFL level because otherwise you have no real point of reference.

Thank you Scott. These young men deserve the opportunity to be the best that they can be whether that is in Canada or the US. Either way it’s a win win… and why should they be stifled. Like any other job, everyone tries to improve their lot and find either more fulfilling jobs or more monies – why should this be any different; or any different from hockey or soccer. U.S football is a big stage and we should be proud as Ottawans that our city was recognized for 3 of the best.

  9. Who’s being stifled? The CFL and their fans and sports fan in general in Canada are being stifled by the Canadian players and their controlling basically, Canadian player’s union, made up of carefully selected over-rated and grossly overpaid Canadian O-Linemen and their controlling, handcuffing, guaranteed Canadian starter and huge guaranteed Canadian roster ratios. What a hypocritical statement…the Canadian players deserve the best and the opportunity to go to the NFL and why should they be stopped if they want to improve themselves? And you said it’s a win, win situation! What! A win for them and the NFL, but certainly not for the CFL! And the CFL is not allowed to go out and find the best and most talented available players to start and play in the CFL for entire game and at every position, so CFL 3 down professional football can be played at its highest level with the best available players. Come on! Get with program! The real truth is the CFL and their fans and sports fans in general are being used and screwed by the Canadian players and their controlling basically, Canadian player’s union and their controlling, handcuffing, guaranteed Canadian starter and huge Canadian roster ratios. Who aren’t even committed to the CFL Canadian Draft or committed to even playing in the CFL and are more focused on going to NFL camps and are signing in the NFL, more and more every year. And that is one of several major reasons why there are so many empty seats in the CFL and so many sports fans in Canada that only watch the NFL and not the CFL, and why the CFL is perceived as minor league and is not respected as a real professional football league. And unless the CFL finally wakes up and looks out for their fans and the CFL’s best interests and finally allows the CFL Coaches and GM’s to recruit and start and play the best and most talented available players for an entire game and at every position in the CFL, like every other professional sports league can, including MLS. They never will be!
