Madani: Former Riders coach Corey Chamblin to be Argos new DC

The Toronto Argonauts will hire Corey Chamblin as their defensive coordinator says 3DownNation contributor and SportsNet reporter Arash Madani.

The 39-year-old led the Riders to a Grey Cup triumph on prairie soil in 2013, earning the franchise just its fourth CFL title since being established in 1910. During three-and-a-half seasons as head coach in Riderville, Chamblin posted a 29-34 regular season record while going 3-2 in the playoffs.

Chamblin was let go by the Riders midway through the 2015 season.

Chamblin will join the staff of new head coach Marc Trestman, whose hiring was announced last week.

  1. Stumbler should have stayed in Calgary. Turned out to be a bad move.

Everybody should stay in Calgary.Leaving is always a bad move for anyone.
Stubler is getting old and really looking at the guy I’m not sure he can handle to game day rigors .great DC and no offense to him
CC will is a better DC than HC

I thought Trestman was smarter than that. Unless he can figure out how to bring the narcissist back to reality and check his ego at the door it won’t work.

I’m surprised rider fans are so hostile towards this guy.He won you a cup at home. I don’t think its his fault you went 3-15 (or Tanam for that matter)

There’s a lot of Cats fans who didn’t like his defense for his one year as DC in Hamilton.

Of course there is the question of whether Trestman is desperate. Where one checks out Chamblin’s resume … he has more years as HC than DC. After all, the one year in Hamilton is the sum total of his DC experience.

Who knows though … maybe like others such as Desjardins he has learned in the meantime.

No teams willing to give Chamblin a 2nd chance as the CFL is well known in doing with many coaches and players. He will walk a very straight line with Trestman and if Corey is wise learn from one of the best HCs in the league.

Question is … what makes Chamblin a good DC when he has a total of one year in that role?

In comparison, he’s got three years as HC as well as five as defensive backs coach.

I would have though Stubler would have been the better choice until next year but was not consulted. *grin*

  6. The guy cant even remember how many players are to be playing on the defense , time and time again he gets penalized for too many players , bad choice choosing this guy .

  7. As a Ticat fan I love this hiring… Zach Collaros will slice and dice Chamblin’s defence…

Cannot wait for the carnage to begin…

    Cheers… Snake
