Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign quarterback Dan LeFevour

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers re-signed Canadian linebacker Sam Hurl and agreed to terms with free-agent quarterback Dan LeFevour on Thursday.

Hurl, a six-foot-one, 225-pound Calgary native, returns for a third season in Winnipeg. He has appeared in 30 regular-season games, registering 59 tackles, 14 special-team tackles, five sacks, two interceptions and one forced fumble.

The six-foot-three, 230-pound LeFevour is a five-year CFL veteran. He spent last season with Toronto and has also played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes.

The Bombers also signed defensive back Sam Brown and linebacker Will Smith, both Americans.

  1. Smart signing for the Bombers. This guy is a starting caliber quarterback and if Nichols struggles he can lead them. Why the Argos didn’t re-sign him I have no clue. We all know Drew Willy isn’t the answer.

    • I was thinking the same thing. LeFevour is also more of a scrambler if they should want a change of pace. And as for the Argos – apparently Ricky Ray says he’s ready to start!

    • Big J. Absolutely right. I’m a big fan

  2. a very solid backup to Nichols.Winnipeg fans should sleep a little easier at night now

Kind of a sigh of relief here in Winnipeg today with this sighning. Nice to have dan on board if Nichols struggles or gets hurt

Apparently Argos like their qb’s to all be the same. With Ray, Willy and now Jeff Matthews … their coach (oh wait – they don’t have one of those!) must love pocket passers. No room left for Lefevour as their fourth qb would be a developmental guy.

  5. Smart move, LeFevour is a starter quality guy with a strong arm and running ability

He does not have a strong arm…one of the big concerns we had about him here in the Hammer, though he could be effective…

LeFevour is the new Kevin Glenn. Good backup that will never get you the Grey Cup.

  7. Having watched a number of games live with LeFevour at QB, I can say that he is NOT the answer. Doesn’t seem to have the football sense to play well.
