I see this type of contract – a base salary, plus incentives for games played, becoming the norm for players with history of injuries, or even 1 serious injury. e.g. for Andy Fantuz, Owens, Gable. Win-win situation for player AND club.

  3. I don’t think the low base salary + incentives has anything to do with past injuries. It is all about the ability of HC Jones to inset or bench Durant or his 2nd and 3rd QB at will even when the QBs are healthy.

  4. Chris Jones has done untold damage to the Rider organization that will take years to repair. Durant is worth every penny, and has done more for the organization than Jones ever will.

  5. I think he’s as good as gone. Look what Drew Willy is scheduled to make from the Argos…

    • I agree. I think Darien will be gone. The offer is an insult to a man who has given so much to the Riders. Chris Jones should be the one leaving. Jones has made the team a joke.

    • totally agree. what has Jones done but get rid of every player that proved their worth time & time again. Dressler & Chick both wanted to be Riders & got screwed by Jones. Jones should do like any GOOD GM would have done & fired the coach ( himself ) after that pathetic year which will be repeated without Darien.

  6. CFL fans in every city want to see more of Darian Durant with the Riders where he has done all that could be asked for 10 GREAT years!

Given who the new GM is in Montreal if i were Darian’s agent i know who’s name would be at the very top of my dial list. No brainer here the Als are desperate for a proven talented signal caller, first to play then to mentor their two young QBs. Jones is taking a huge risk going low-ball on Darian Durant

  8. Has anyone ever seen the Blue Jays Mark Shapiro and the Riders Chris Jones in the same room at the same time? Are there 2 Ps in doppelganger?

Seems like all teams are signing players early except the ticats…… Wonder what they’re up to?

    • Looking for a new DC? Probably didn’t have much cap space left before Christmas to re-sign too many guys because any signing bonuses would have come off the 2016 cap. They hopefully will be getting some players back under contract over the course of the next 3-4 weeks although I can see some defensive FAs possibly waiting to see who the new DC is going to be before deciding what they want to do.
